Mega Jump 2 is leaping onto the App Store at midnight tonight

Get Set Games's vertically-scrolling sequel Mega Jump 2 will be leaping onto App Stores everywhere at midnight tonight. Mega Jump 2 builds on the original Mega Jump's jump-based platforming action. It sees the return of monstrously cute hero Redford, whom you must guide up the screen and though a series of new platform-filled worlds, collecting coins as you go. This time out, however, Redford will be joined by some new friends. As well as adding some colour and variety to the character roster, these new protagonists have their own unique special powers to assist you in your quest for coins and gems. The other major change is that Mega Jump 2 is a free-to-play game. The op…

Fly a magic carpet with your face in head-tracking game Umoove Experience

Umoove Experience – or Umoove Experience: The 3D Face & Eye Tracking Flying Game to give it its full name – isn’t much of a game. What it is, however, is proof of what Umoove Ltd's face-tracking software can do, and an exciting jumping off point for more entertainment focused developers. It's hard to get excited about a short game that sees you flying around village trying to collect 14 potions. However, its Umoove Experience's peculiar control scheme which turned our heads - literally. After launching the game, Umoove asks you to place your face within view of your iPhone or iPad's front-facing camera. After a few seconds of calibration, the app is able to…

Episode 2 of Telltale's The Wolf Among Us skulking onto the App Store in early February

Telltale Games has announced that the second episode of The Wolf Among Us will stalk onto the App Store during the first week of February. Given the excitement triggered by the return zombie saga The Walking Dead - and the hype surrounding the recently announced Game of Thrones interactive series - you'd be forgiven for thinking that Telltale had forgotten all about its fantasy comic book adaptation The Wolf Among Us. Since the first episode launched on iOS in early December of last year, we haven't heard hide nor hair from lupine detective Bigby Wolf, or the other fairytale inhabitants of Fabletown. Thankfully for fans of the first chapter, a post on Telltale's forum has confir…

Avoid alien invasion by a whisker in tower-defence shooter Naughty Kitties

You've got your basic Independence Day-style alien invasion setup: extra-terrestrials are descending from space with the intention of using your entire planet as an interstellar conservatory. The only way to stop this from happening is to launch a fish-shaped ship to meet this invaders headfirst, and make sure you and your fellow cats keep the craft flying and firing until the alien menace is defeated. Oh yes - you're a cat, by the way. See: The latest free-to-play game from Coconut Island, Naughty Kitties is part shooter, part tower defence game. The game involves…

Lost Toys Review

Sooner or later, we are going to have to abandon the idea that wooden toys will be viewed by modern kids as pieces of art. While the sight of our once-beloved spinning top may still tug some sentimental heartstrings, the reality is that - these days at least - plastic and pixels are what kids want. Perhaps this is what Barking Mice Studio's new puzzle game Lost Toys is commenting upon. Each stage of this block-puzzler presents the charred and blackened husk of a toy, twisted out of sh…

Massive isometric RPG Avadon 2: The Corruption infecting iPads on February 28th

If you're the kind of gamer who likes their RPGs isometric and covered in grids, then we've got some good news for you. Spiderweb Software has revealed that its massive RPG follow-up Avadon 2: The Corruption will be coming to iPad on February 28th. As you might expect, the sequel to Avadon HD is rammed full of geometric dungeons, ye-olde weaponry, magic systems, and textures that look like they've been lifted out of an Amiga game from 1992.  Story-wise, you'll be assuming the role of a servant of the Black Fortress charged with sorting out the civil war that's been making Avadon such an off-putting holiday destination. If it's anything like the first game, Avadon 2: The Corruption…

Battle Supremacy Review

Atypical Games and Revo Studios are probably best known for the historically-slanted Sky Gamblers flight sim series. For their latest foray into our recent and violent past, the developers have decided to try their hands at tank-based warfare in the WWII blaster Battle Supremacy. And, though it's not as deep or uncompromising as a full-blown tank sim, the game occupies arcade-shooter territory with a respectable degree of confidence. The campaign sees you trundling across France, Russ…

Stunt-racing sequel Joe Danger Infinity reduced to 69p / 99c on the App Store

After landing on the App Store only last week, the toy-tastic stunt-racer sequel Joe Danger Infinity is now on sale for 69p / 99c. Despite the fact that Hello Games only released its pint-sized follow-up to the excellent Joe Danger a few days ago, the developer is already playing fast and loose with the pricing gun. In this case, it's reduced the game's £1.99 / $2.99 price tag to less than a dollar. That's 150cc of fun for the price of 50cc. We really enjoyed Joe Danger Infinity, with its toy-sized take on the action scaling the stuntman down to a size of a Playmobil hero. Swapping out full-sized tracks for tiny assault courses has given the new levels an interesting d…

Be attracted - or repulsed - by the brutal mazes of Magnetized

You know that bit in the first Batman movie when the Batman fires a grappling hook from the side of the Batmobile so that hooks around a vertical girder, thereby allowing the vehicle to zoom around a corner at full speed?  Well, imagine the Batmobile is a black block, and the grappling hook is a visible strand of pure magnetism. Are you doing it? If you are, then you should have a pretty good idea how Macca Cloud's new maze-based puzzler Magnetized works. Each level begins with the hero block flying straight down a neon corridor. There are magnetic blocks dotted around the 80 mazes, each of which can be triggered by holding your finger to the screen. You can only activate one magne…

Ingenious line-drawing puzzler Blek now available on iPhone

It's a good time to be a puzzle fan with an iPhone. Not only can you tackle the ingenious line-based conundrums of the recently released - and rather excellent - LYNE, and the liquid delights of fluid puzzer Feel Me Oil 2, you can finally try Blek. The iPad crowd has had exclusive bragging rights over this nifty gesture-powered join-the-dots puzzle game for a few weeks now. You've seen them: eliminating coloured blobs by flicking their smug fingers across their oversized tablet devices, occasionally shooting you and your petite iPhone pitying glances while baring their polished teeth through barely-contained sneers. But no more. No more must you tolerate their self-satisfied condesce…

Review Thomas Bowker By Alex Beech, 10 years, 3 months ago
LYNE Review

One of the keys to a good puzzle game is creating something that feels new, but also has an air of familiarity. It is a feat rooted in simple and intuitive design, a form which conjures the thought that, surely, someone must have had the idea already. Thomas Bowker's LYNE does exactly this. And, no matter how hard we wrack our brains, we can't think of another game that does what it does. Or, at least, none that do it as well. As the name suggests, the simple goal of LYNE is to…

Codemasters chooses Singapore to play host to soft launch of endless-racer USA: Drive

If the idea of speeding your way across the United States of America in a car has you excitedly humming Born to be Wild, then you might want to check out Codemasters' recently soft-launched free-to-play endless-runner Drive: USA. However, before you strap on your driving goggles, you'll want to check your postal address. You see, rather than soft launch Drive: USA in New Zealand or Canada, the developer has decided to use the Singapore App Store as a testing bed instead. Drive: USA looks to be trying to blend the classic arcade racer Cruisin' USA with Temple Run. Set against a background of Americana, the familiar multi-lane action moves between cities, towns, and open road as you dod…

Backers to receive first half of Kickstarter sensation Broken Age tomorrow

Almost two years after beating its Kickstarter goal by over $3 million, the first episode of Double Fine's point-and-click adventure game Broken Age is about to be made available to backers of the project.  The early launch, which will see those who contributed to the game's whopping Kickstarter funding total gaining access to the game, was confirmed on Saturday in a tweet from Double Fine's studio head Tim Schafer. The tweet read: "Haven't shipped a game of my own in 4.5 years, an adventure game in 16, a point-n-click in almost 20. Next Tuesday is going to be exciting!"  The acclaimed developer went on to say that though Tuesday's release would be for backers only, th…

See the gross miracle of birth in first Mewgenics footage

Team Meat has just given us the first glimpse of its upcoming cat breeding sim Mewgenics in action, via an animated GIF posted on its blog.  And, as you might expect from the creators of Super Meat Boy, the footage is a bit weird.  Though the GIF (below) only runs a few seconds long, it show a female cat giving birth to two kittens, while the daddy cat looks on expectantly.  As Team Meat co-founder Edmund explains, the footage demonstrates the way in which kittens inherit physical traits from both their parents. For example, the first kitten delivered possesses the spotted body markings of its mother, but the head shape of its father. What the GIF doesn't reveal is that…
