Turn your world upside down with the Monument Valley teaser trailer
Indie developer ustwo has just released the first teaser trailer for its architectural puzzle game Monument Valley - and it's a doozy. Up until today, we've only seen screenshots of the arty puzzler. Even in still images, however, the game looked fantastic, and we've been harbouring hope that those impossible environments and rotating platforms would look just as good in motion. Now that we've seen the newly released Monument Valley teaser (below), we can safely say our worries have been put to rest. Clearly inspired by the geometry-defying drawings of Escher, Monument Valley puts you in charge of a small white figure traversing constantly evolving structures. The sneak-peek…
Sirtet deconstructs Tetris
Or at least that's the plan. While this game may not be much to look at, the idea of reforming blocks of colour to create tetrominoes is enticing. The ability to place new lines anywhere you wish is interesting, and the ability to add more colours to complicate matters just seals the deal. Take a look at the trailer to see what I mean... There are fears that it looks a little too easy, but one imagines that's what the colours are for, and if it's anything like Tetris, it will get faster. The app is available today for $2.99 on the US store, and should make its way wordwide in the coming week.…
Top 7 Platformers on iPhone and iPad
One of the very first games I fell in love with as a youngster was Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Ever since then I've had a soft spot for platformers. The App Store has tons of great games that require you leap from one ledge to another, occasionally crushing enemies beneath your feet. However, to save you sifting though the whole lot, I've gone ahead and whittled them down to the seven crucial ones you absolutely must play. Oh, and as I note in the video, you'll find none of that auto-runner stuff in this list. I love a bit of Temple Run, but this video is dedicated to traditional-style platformers: with levels and goals and endings.…
Exploding presents let you start Christmas with a bang in Clash of Clans update
Developer Supercell has decided to bring some pre-Christmas cheer to Clash of Clans via its newly released winter update. Download the update, and you'll find fortresses steeped in snow, twinkly lights aplenty, and the sound of sleigh bells jingling in the distance. All of which should put in you in the perfect frame of mind to march into your neighbour's village and smash up their town hall. You know - just like Santa would do. Speaking of Saint Nick, you can now enlist his holly-jolly help during scuffles. Simply say the word, and Santa will rain down explosive presents on your unsuspecting enemies. Along with the Christmas themed additions-the update also includes a few interf…
Throw around your fuzzy friends and steal the world's supply of bulbs in physics-puzzler Lightomania [Sponsored]
Lightomania is a brand-new physics-puzzler from a developer called Nravo. In Lightomania, you're tasked with helping two fuzzy (and loveable) thieves who plan to make off with the world's supply of energy-rich light bulbs. You do this across 54 varied stages. How? By pulling the tongues of your pilfering buddies and then launching them across your device's screen at their targets. Naturally, you should attempt to complete each stage in as few moves as possible if you wish to get your mitts on any of Lightomania's many bonuses. Although Lightomania was inspired by some of the App Store's most popular puzzle games, such as Angry Birds and Cut the Rope, Nravo have worked hard to ensure th…
A videogame... in the fourth dimension! Dun dun dun!
Tesseract: a fourth dimension game is a puzzle game where you need to lead a sphere through a constantly shifting hypercube. It sounds bizarre, and the video does little to really explain it to me (but mind you, I constantly failed physcis in high school). Perhaps you will fare better. I always assumed the fourth dimension was time. I guess it's shapes shifting dimensions (or whatever is going on here). To be honest, this looks like it will only appeal to a very specific type of puzzle fan, but to those players, I say that the game is available now for $1.99. [App Store Link]…
Burn the Rope 3D Review
It's time for the one sentence review: Burn the Rope 3D is Burn the Rope in the third dimension. You're all most likely familiar with the gameplay of either Burn the Rope. You are presented with an image composed of rope, often of varying colour. Touching any spot on the rope and it will start burning. The flame will only stay alight if it travelling either horizontally or vertically, with vertical lengths burning much faster. The goal is to burn as much of the rope as possible.…
Watch The Video ReviewLetris 3: Word puzzle game Review
App Store success stories can often come from the place you least expect. The Letris series is one such success, and it's a game franchise we haven't really had our eye on. The premise is simple: it's Tetris with letters - essentially a more single-minded version of Puzzlejuice. You create words through tapping letters, and try not to let your stack reach the top of the screen. Letris 3 is the latest in a series so popular that's it's apparently spawned its own game show, so we though…
Watch The Video ReviewCollect and conquer in new casual RPG Heroes of Dragon Age
EA's historically-slanted RPG Heroes of Dragon Age is now out of soft launch, and can be downloaded by iPhone and iPad owners worldwide. Essentially a collectible card game without the cards, Heroes of Dragon Age invites players to recreate battles from the Dragon Age mythology. The aim, beyond swotting up for your fantasy history exam, is to collect as many characters as you can, and then combine these heroes with others to power up your squad. As with most CCG-style games, the battles themselves play out automatically. You job is to ensure you have cherry-picked the best fighters for each bout based on their skills, stats, and loyalties. If you need a little help f…

Angry Birds Star Wars II has just received its biggest update yet, now boasting an additional 44 levels of force-powered feather-flinging action. These new levels take the intergalactic conflict between the rebel birds and imperial piggies to the peaceful planet of Naboo. Each faction - light side and dark side - receive 20 new levels, giving you the option to take flight and save Naboo from the Galactic Empire, or crush the Alliance beneath your bacon flavoured hoof. Telltale has just confirmed that the first episode of The Wolf Among Us will slink onto the App Store later tonight. Already available on consoles and PC, The Wolf Among Us is Telltale's first new project since its incredibly successful The Walking Dead: The Game series. Like the company's undead opus, The Wolf Among Us is based on a comic book series - in this case, the Fables books. Enter the fairy tale Dream world and save it from destruction in hidden object title Dream: Hidden Adventure [Sponsored]
If you're familiar with Apple's App Store, you'll already be more than aware that it's chock-full of similar-sounding hidden object titles. For those of you who are unfamiliar with hidden object games, by the way, let me explain. You have to spot specific items in crowded scenes that are usually jam-packed with distracting elements, such as people or other items. Dream: Hidden Adventure, which was released worldwide back in October by developer Komar Games, is no different. However, publisher Renatus Media believe their involved plot and story-driven gameplay set Dream: Hidden Adventure apart from the rest of the crowded pack. It's this emphasis on story, in fact, of which publisher R…
One would hope 'The Franz Kafka Videogame' is kafkaesque
Inspired by the works of German author Franz Kafka (who some regard as the premier writer of the 20th century), it's only natural that games have taken inspiration from his themes of persecution, absurdity, and the surreal nature of his writing. Going one step further, Denis Galanin has crafted The Franz Kafka Videogame, in which the protagonist K is given employment and sent on a journey to a world unline anything he expected. The trailer will set the tone of this adventure. Please watch. The game wishes to allow the player to experience the uncertainity and absurdity that K is feeling in the situations he finds himself in. If played off right, this could be quite the provactive exp…
