A Game for Fans of Star Wars and Pinball

Star Wars Pinball Boba Fett is hitting the App Store this week. Those who want to relive the key movie moments of Boba Fett while juggling multi-ball and shooting up ramps, this game will be right up your alley. The trailer makes it look a little cinematic in places, but that might just mean more amusement as you're chasing that high score. Have a look for yourselves.…

Bipolar Review

Bipolar Review

Now now, before anyone gets into an uproar, this is not a puzzle game based around the medical disorder. It's more like... well, do you know those chess puzzles in the newspaper that have a pre-set amount of pieces and you have to figure out how to checkmate in a certain number of moves? This is like that with the board game Othello... only not really. Each horizontal row needs to be the same color, and to make that happen, you draw a line across tiles with your finger so that when you…

Worm Run Review

You are Zeke Tallahassee, space janitor. It's depressing how many space janitors are lost trying to emulate the exploits of the famed Roger Wilco, but Zeke finds himself fleeing for his life from a gigantic space worm. These are the risks that come with the territory however. Worm Run is an endless runner based around a swiping mechanic, leading Zeke through all manner of twisting cavern full on nooks and crevices. Unfortunately, things are not as smooth as you might think. Swipes are…

Speed Kills hits the App Store running

Speed Kills hits the App Store running

Speed Kills is a top down racer, powered by the Unreal Engine, that harks back to the glory days of Micro Machines and Skid Marks with its violent, action packed, hard cornering gameplay. And you can grab it right now from the App Store for nothing at all. The game features more than 100 races spread across 50 unique tracks, and fully upgradeable vehicles that can look like sleek futuristic rocket ships or post-apocalyptic death trucks. Throw in some weapons and you've got a recipe for destruction. It certainly looks the part, and there's a pumping industrial rock soundtrack to make your ears bleed too. Getting the right balance of arcade handling and decent controls can be difficult on to…

DIE HARD Review

Editor's Note: I should have picked up on the incorrect movie title; apologies! Freemium design around the in-app purchase model can be excused. Freemium design around the in-app purchase model of a premium title is pretty abominable, but OK. Freemium design around the in-app purchase model of a premium title that is a movie licensed game, well that's reaching new heights of unbelievability. That's what we have here with Die Hard however. Don't be confused though, it's not based on th…

Towel Fight 2: The Monocle of Destiny

Towel Fight 2: The Monocle of Destiny

The first thought I had watching the trailer of Towelfight 2 is that the game designers definitely took their inspiration from The Binding of Isaac. This is certainly not a bad thing at all as long as the control allow for fluid movement around these crazy game levels. The whole game has a nice 'we don't take ourselves that seriously' tone, and when the game is released on February 26th, it could prove to be quite enjoyable.…

App Wrap Up (Week Ending, 22nd February, 2013)

Hey hey readers! It's the end of the week and we here at Appspy have another App Wrap Up ready to read. Now that the year is starting to kick into gear the releases are speeding up somewhat, but plenty of games fall through the cracks and are over looked for one reason or another. As always we have some trailers of such games, and are showcasing them here based on something interesting that they might have to offer. Without further ado, let's get started!   Super Grid Run (Refresh Creations ltd) A very pure style of endless runner. It kind of throws back to early entries in the 3d genre like Boost 3D. I hope that the control method is responsive as the onslaught of obstac…

Red Rusher is... er... Rushing into the App Store on Feb 25th

While the majority of the trailer I'm about to embed sets up the story of Red Rusher, it was the brief gameplay glimpses at the end that intrigued me, with its monochrome colour pallete and 'swiping to slash' attacks. Have a look for yourself. Have a look out for this one dropping in the App Store early next week.…

Rock Slide due for iOS Sometime in March

Rock Slide just came out on Android devices, but is slated for an iOS release this March. Now a quick look at it might cause most of you to be dismissive of its simplistic visuals, but have a look at the trailer, and the puzzle gameplay underneath. I think puzzle fans will find some entertainment when this one finally gets released.…

Avadon 2: The Corruption coming later this year

Avadon 2: The Corruption coming later this year

If you like your RPGs old skool, your view points isometric, and your epic adventures quest based, then you're probably going to get pretty excited at the prospect of the recently revealed Avadon 2: The Corruption. The second in Spiderweb Software's deep, heavy going RPG series, this new adventure, which is the middle chunk of a proposed trilogy, is set to pick up where its predecessor left off, adding new intrigues and story lines for you to get your teeth into. This isn't RPGing for the faint of heart or the action orientated though, much like its predecessor the game is set to offer deep character advancement, plenty of lore, and hours upon hours of quests, side quests, and diversions f…

Krashlander Review

Krashlander Review

So apparently evil robots from another planet have destroyed our world (again), and humanity's defense in this game's case is to don a suit so you can ski down slopes, crashing into the robots, and destroying them. Their one weakness! Krashlander has you traversing hazardous mountain paths with the end goal of smacking into these robots, before moving onto the next mission. It's a physics based arcade game in bite sized levels, but there is one crucial difference here, the control sche…

The Witness heading to iOS

The Witness heading to iOS

In all the bluster over the PS4 reveal last night, you might have missed a pretty interesting snippet of information – The Witness, created by Jonathan Blow the man behind seminal mind warping platformer Braid, is coming to iOS devices. A puzzle game set in an open world, The Witness sees you interacting with a series of panels in order to manipulate the gorgeous looking island you find yourself on. The brain teasers on offer are non-linear, so if you get stuck on one you can wander over to the next and have a crack at that instead. In a post over at the PlayStation blog, Thekla Inc., the team working on the game, said that the game is really about “epiphany – that leap y…

Wide Sky (UPDATED: Ver. 1.3) Review

Review Update (21 Feb, 2013): Let it not be said that Marcus Eckert isn't listening to his audience. A recent update has overhauled Wide Sky with a seemingly minor, but drastically helpful quality-of-life update to the interface that proves to be the difference between sheer frustration and casual, mindless fun. An indicator on your hedgehog lets you keep track of where the rope will appear, and once latched on to a cloud you'll also receive a handy arrow pointing you in the direction…

Year Walk Review

Review Simogo AB By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 2 months ago
Year Walk Review

Isolation, loneliness, darkness, despair, and fear - such are the emotions exploited by thrillers and horror based titles, and Year Walk by Simogo is no exception. However, instead of relying on cheap thrills and spills or obscene violence like a teen-slasher, this title gently pushes you in to a world dripping with macabre portents, leading you deeper and deeper in to its dark and disturbing story. For a developer known for their upbeat titles, Year Walk makes for a surprising change…
