Legend of Fat Ninja Review

Legend of Fat Ninja Review

Developers, if you call your game Legend of Fat Ninja, I expect to see a fat ninja. Not just a hearty ninja which is what we have in this offering. The main reason is after graduating from the Iron Skillet Academy, Fat Ninja is on a quest to find the best ingredients possible, but also to crush the competition with his nin-jitsu. This is accomplished by pinballing around the level like a loon, and would be a lot more amusing if our character was just a little heavier. If wishes were ho…

Rocketcat Games releases a trailer for Punch Quest

Rocketcat Games releases a trailer for Punch Quest

Rocketcat Games, the developer behind the really rather wonderful Super Quickhook, and the equally wonderful Mage Gauntlet, has released a trailer for its next game, Punch Quest. The game looks like a homage to the side scrolling beat 'em ups of the 16bit era, complete with rideable dinosaurs and explosive button mashing combos. There appears to be a decent dollop of humour in the game too, with costume changes and ridiculous enemies all adding to the chortle value of the sprite based brawler. And if Rocketcat's pedigree is anything to go by, we should all be in for a treat. Punch Quest is sitting in Apple's decision making lap right now, being pawed over by the powers that be to make sur…

Ambi-ON Review

Ambi-On is the tale of controlling a parasite eradicating device used to purge the gas shafts of this planet mining operation. Accomplishing this task plays like a mix of Breakout and Pong, as you paddle an orb back and forth, collecting credits, and triggering explosions until the orb explodes itself and you end up failing your mission, only to take those credits, upgrade your device and try again. Not the most efficient way I could think of to clear out parasites, but there you go.…

Burrito Bison Review

Last year we had the absolute joy of being able to play Juicy Beast's disgustingly fun classic GOBTRON on the iOS platform, but it wasn't long after its release that fans asked, 'Where's Burrito Bison?'. At long last the developer has paired up with Ravenous Games to release their luchadore-bison bouncing; gummy-bear squishing; city-smashing Flash hit to the App Store, but is it too little too late now? The App Store, and indeed the free-Flash game market itself, is redolent with game…

With an amazing looking art style, this clever twist on the tile puzzle game is looking good. We'll know more when it launches in two weeks or so, but for now check out the trailer.…

Lanterns Review

[Lanterns was featured as the Mini-review for the 5th of October, 2012 Friday News Wrap-Up] The Lantern Festival that ends most Chinese New Year celebrations is a beautiful thing to observe and take part in. There’s something calming about seeing hundreds of softly-lit colored orbs tethered on or strung-up between buildings, or better yet, floating free in the sky. Lanterns by Big Time Games recreates the zen-like relaxation of the festival by using the already familiar match-3…

In the meantime lets talk about some of the hottest news from the last week or so, because I’ll be honest, there’s some eye-openers to talk about. This is the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 5th of October, 2012. Modern Combat 4: Zero HourThe annual update to Gameloft’s top selling shooter franchise is looming upon us and the developer is keen to show off just how pretty it looks. Jumpster™ Review

If there's one thing Jumpster has going for it, it's that for most of the levels, eye-absorbing would be a very apt description. The planet Okadia is definitely full of eye candy, but sadly this is not going to help Jumpster acquire all the fuel cells needed to power his ship off this lush and lavish planet. The core of the experience here is a physics puzzler that is designed around the freemium model. A catapulting drag of the finger will cause Jumpster to jump along the arc provide…

True Axis releases a teaser trailer for True Skate

True Axis releases a teaser trailer for True Skate

True Axis, the developer behind the award winning Jet Car Stunts, has released a new trailer showing off some gameplay from their upcoming skating flick-a-thon, True Skate. The game lets you control a digital skateboard with your fingers, swiping and tapping out tricks in a pretty similar way to how you'd perform them with your feet in real life. While it does bear some similarities to Touchgrind, a change in camera angle means you can see a lot more of the park spread out around you, and plan better routes through the various obstacles. True Skate should be hitting the App Store pretty soon, but in the meantime, check out the trailer we've embedded below to get a flavour of the skate boa…

Save The Puppies PREMIUM Review

Sometimes you just have to solve your own problems. If a dogcatcher is going to capture all the puppies in your area, instead of trying to deal with the issue on human terms, you should just  rescue the puppies yourself (as they have been dropped all over town in their cages). How might a lowly sausage dog complete such an undertaking? By eating sausages to grow to a sufficient enough length to solve puzzles of course! Save the Puppies uses an on-screen d-pad on the bottom left o…

Sugar Kid Review

Cute protagonist? Check. Three-star system to unlock content? Check. Physics-based gameplay system? Triple check. It’s almost a recipe for mundanity by now, but A Crowd of Monsters and Bulkypix have taken the best aspects of these games, paired it with perhaps the most disturbing penalty system I’ve seen in a while and packaged it with quickly unlocking content that scales to your skill level with uncanny precision. This is Sugar Kid, and I don’t think I’ll be…

Payback² HD - The Battle Sandbox Review

For gamers like myself, the idea of a truly open-ended experience can be daunting - it’s not that I can’t set myself goals and then achieve them, but that I kind of expect that sort of input from the people who made them game. As such the genre has never really appealed; at least not for an extended period of time. Thankfully there’s always Payback^2 by Apex Design, a resurrected iOS GTA-a-like classic that concentrates on bite-sized action-packed missions while still…

Glu Mobile releases trailer for Deathdome

Glu Mobile has released the first trailer for its upcoming Infinity Blade style hack, slash, and blocker, Deathdome, and it's looking pretty impressive indeed. The trailer shows off a gritty, post apocalyptic wasteland that owes more than a little to 2K's Borderlands, and a little bit more than that to Mad Max 2. It looks like you're job is going to be pulverising mutant gladiators in the titular Deathdome, using touch screen swipes and taps to attack and dodge. The game is set to release for iOS and Android devices in the not too distant future, and you can check out the entertainingly violent trailer embedded below. Via Phandroid…

MechWarrior: Tactical Command iPad Review

The release of MechWarrior: Tactical Command on the iOS platform may seem like a somewhat archaic franchise to resurrect for the modern gamer, but with MechWarrior Tactics pulling in old fans it was going to be now or never. Modeled after the real-time tactical wing of the MechWarrior franchise (MechCommander), Personae Studios manages to capture many of the detailed points from the series, while stumbling over everything else, including the controls, presentation and storyline. Summa…

The Last Express Review

Review DotEmu By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 6 months ago
The Last Express Review

In the world of Adventure titles, The Last Express is a sort of right-of-passage, especially as it puts a spin on the usual tropes of the genre by packing them in to a mystery-thriller that plays out in real-time. It should be no surprise that such a concept sprang from the mind of Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner, and despite its relative age it remains a shining example of how deeply gameplay and storytelling can be intertwined. You play as Robert Cath, a young doctor thrown…
