CHAOS RINGS Ω Review
RPG fans are an odd bunch and many companies have recognized this, adopting the motto of, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' with gusto. While some publishers/developers should be applauded for trying to mix things up in order to penetrate the Western market, JRPGs are less prone to making wild new leaps. With this in mind it's no surprise that Chaos Rings Omega - the 'prequel' to the original Chaos Rings title from Square Enix - feels more like a story-based expansion than a full-fledg…
Watch The Video ReviewPlayflo's Tap the Frog Lands Top Mobile Award
Ukraine upstart Playfo is jumping for joy this week as it has won two awards for its iOS prod-a-thon Tap the Frog. This colourful test of finger speed bagged the much coveted 'Best mobile game' at Flash GAMM 2011 in Moscow and swooped in, as frogs naturally do, for the 'Mobile of the day' award at FWA (Favourite Website Awards). Playfo's supreme commander Vitaliy Onishenko gushed: This is a great success of our game!...We decided to celebrate recognition and allow more people to enjoy our game - so we reduced price to $0.00 in App Store for few days! Clearly eager to air a sneaky pun, developer Mentals's lead producer Sergey Romanyuk added: Our froggy game hopped really fast into Top #…
Multiplayer Mode Strikes Infinity Blade On 19th May
Hackers 'n' slashers of this world: put down your weapons and gather round... Multiplayer mode is about to be unsheathed in Infinity Blade!! Yes, it’s true, it’s true (screenshots below are proof, if you don’t believe me). ChAIR Entertainment’s – ahem - epic tale of revenge, bloodlines, heroism, and God Kings will receive its hugely anticipated update tomorrow (19th May). Alongside the multiplayer Arena mode, which consists of best-of-seven clashes between a fearless knight and a bloody great monster, Infinity Blade’s latest refresh includes a new Survivor mode. Somewhat inevitably given its title, this single player fare challenges you to last as long as you humanly can in a…
DOFUS : Battles Review
In a way I feel woefully disappointed that I'm not more familiar with the Dofus series of titles by Ankama Games, but I'm pleasantly surprised to find that despite the rich background it has, Dofus: Battles for the App Store is not only approachable, but a great introduction to this fascinating world. The mythos quickly sets up a narrative based around a demonically inspired human who presents a threat to the current gods, leading them to each create a champion, along with a magical d…
Watch The Video ReviewNano Panda Review
Don't be fooled by this game's cute exterior - the panda's may be cute and the panicked reactions of the evil atoms may be amusing, but Nano Panda by Unit9 isn't for the easily frustrated. While the idea of destroying atoms with cute pandas may sound like a recipe for heart-break, you'll soon wish you could fire a thousand pandas in to a thousand atoms just to get some satisfaction. It sounds like I'm raging out on the game, but let me be perfectly clear - the game is insanely addictiv…
Watch The Video ReviewTHOR: Son of Asgard Review
Ahhh the movie tie-in - gamers dread its appearance for much the same reason that comic fans dread the movie conversion, especially when there's an outside chance that things actually come together so you have to give it a chance. THOR was a decent film - definitely worth seeing if you're after an action blockbuster - however the same can't be said of the App Store title Son of Asgard by Marvel Entertainment. Despite sporting the visual style of the film, the story is set apart and po…
Watch The Video ReviewPolarbit Take Another Crack At Kart Racing
'Cracking Sands' isn't an Englishman complimenting a beach, or anything like that at all, actually. Rather, it's the codename for Swedish studio Polarbit's new iOS kart racer. Polarbit do love their racing games, having already entertained us with Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart and more serious sims such as Raging Thunder 2. With a noticeably top-down perspective and the winning formula of cartoon characters, power-ups, and power slides, Cracking Sands looks to be gearing up for action very nicely. You'll get further details when we do, so sit tight. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the screenies below. Enjoy.…
Catch The Candy Review
So... you've got some candy and you've got a rope (of sorts), but in Catch the Candy by Bulkypix and FedoIT there's no cutting required. In fact the squishy little blue/purple fuzzball you control is like Spiderman if Spiderman lived in a quaint forest and used his powers to eat candy. The analogy, aside from odd, is actually apt as each of the 53 currently available levels are completed by flinging a sticky limb out from the little monster in order to grab on to objects and swing aro…
Watch The Video ReviewChromanoids™ Review
There are some game concepts that remain insanely compelling for decades, thanks in part to the way they've influenced other titles, but also because they're simple enough to grasp immediately and challenging enough to keep you coming back for more. Chromanoids by Hothead Games takes another crack at the Missile Command formula, adding a color-based twist and managing to bring an arcade-like feel thanks its unique 'credit' system. At its most basic level players need only to tap the s…
Watch The Video ReviewDeathSpank Team Launch Full Scale Assault On iOS
Hothead Games is a famed indie console game developer and publisher based in Vancouver, Canada. You may know them from such titles as DeathSpank, Precipice of Darkness, and Swarm. What may be news to you, though, is that aforementioned studio is branching out...sorry, is BRANCHED out. First off, this acclaimed console team launched Bunny the Zombie Slayer onto the App Store, a castle defence title starring a resolute and - dare I say it – rampant rabbit. Second off, Hothead Games has blasted the colourful, retro space shooter Chromanoids onto iPhone and iPad, featuring power-ups, waves and waves of enemy, and romance. Yes, romance. That’s not all from the Spanky boys: a multiplayer…
TNA Wrestling Impact! Hitting iPhone Ring On 19th May
Vince McMahon’s legendary WWE promotion stepped into the App Store squared circle with its Angry Birds-alike Superstar Slingshot a month or so ago. Long-time rival federation TNA (or Total Nonstop Action to the non-believers), meanwhile, debuted on iPhone in front of a sizeable crowd in 2009 with its RPG / sports hybrid title. And Dixie Carter’s boys are looking to bring it once again, as Namco Bandai’s TNA Wrestling Impact! is scheduled for one fall on 19th May. Many of your favourite TNA grapplers will be in action, including Kurt Angle, RVD, and AJ Styles, while it’ll also be possible to create your own wrestler and fashion a few nifty finishing moves for him to pull off. I wi…
Rooftop Escape Review
It's not often that an endless platformer of some variety comes along and I actually sigh a breath of relief - I'm not about to complain about playing something almost completely devoid of the need to think and it's likely many others feel the same way when they play these addictive titles. Rooftop Escape by Colorbox is a vertical falling game that pits you against the side of a building as clothes-lines and balconies act as the only thing between you and high-score victory. Touching…
Watch The Video ReviewArmy of Darkness Defense Review
Army of Darkness was, even in my early years, a cult-classic and with such a following it's hard not to step on some toes when approaching the franchise for a video game conversion. Instead of trying to create something grandiose and overly-complex, Backflip Studios sticks to what it does best - that is to say, a game that's focused with a limited scope while still being enjoyable enough to keep coming back for more. There are no surprises for guessing what kind of game Army of Darkne…
Watch The Video ReviewGameloft Unleash N .O. V. A. 2 Multiplayer Maps
Cartographers and N.O.V.A. 2 fans alike will be pleased to know that Gameloft have thrown us a lovely new downloadable map pack to scour, as well as a handful of bug fixes. If like I, you enjoy varied killing sprees, then your deep-seated urges are catered for amply with this expansion set. There are skirmishes aplenty to be had in one map in particular, Floating Rocks, while Aquarius Beach nurtures everyone's desire to pick someone off from a sniper nest. The pack for this highly acclaimed shooter is available now for $1.99 and... ...what's that? We get ten free XP levels for the multiplayer game?!? Bonus!…
15 Extra Levels In Jump Out! Update
Avallon Alliance’s Cut the Rope-inspired Jump Out! only leapt onto the App Store on 22nd April, yet the developers have already rolled out two updates. The major refresh, otherwise known as v. 1.5, brings some rather dull improvements – namely performance enhancements – and some rather exciting goodies to this beguiling physics-based puzzler. And given one of Andrew’s few criticisms about Jump Out! was its longevity, the inclusion of 15 brand stonking new levels should atone for that shortcoming to a degree. Retina display support for compatible iHandsets has also been added in the latest revision, making those awfully darling bugs pop and zing across the screen. Whilst Avallon A…
