Smashed (Full) Review

Smashed is a physics based game where players must demolish large structures and towers of crates as effectively as possible to rack up their highscore. The game also boasts an interesting story for players to work through, which is quite unusual for a physics game but certainly a welcomed addition. Players begin their training in site demolition and are given instructions on how to destroy wooden crates and other objects. You destroy objects by tapping on them and earn extra points b…

GHOSTS'N GOBLINS GOLD KNIGHTS Review

It's fairly common for older "classic" games to get a port on the iPhone, whether it be as an emulated copy, a stylized clone, or a complete overhaul. Ghosts'n Goblins Gold Knights by CAPCOM attempts to bring the classic arcade game to the iPhone while mashing modern styles together. Once you're in the game you'll find yourself presented with the familiar platform controls of a virtual d-pad on the left and attack/jump buttons on the right. They do take up a considerable amount of scr…

James Cameron's Avatar Review

It's not surprising that a developer like Gameloft were brought in to bring to life James Cameron's Avatar for the iPhone. For a film that's already critically acclaimed, it was really only a matter of time for game tie-ins to appear. Gameloft takes care to approach this as something worth playing first and it shows in every aspect of the game itself. Avatar is an action platformer that practically smashes others in the genre. You take control through the use of virtual analogue stick…

FEATURE ARTICLE: Augmented Reality...a Reality?

What if you were to stand in mid-town Manhattan, hold up your iPhone and walk through a reconstruction of the original Penn Station, as it was in the year 1910, or walk through the streets of London, admiring the pre-blitz buildings. Or how about playing the role of Pac Man as you are chased by Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde through the labyrinth of back alleyways in Central Melbourne. Hungry? With every restaurant you turn to, you see an impressive listing of menus, opening hours and seating availability appear before your eyes. This is not too far off, in fact, it's practically here, and on the iPhone. Dutch Developer 'Layar' has introduced one of the first (of which will indeed be many) Ap…

Rise Of Lost Empires Review

Rise Of Lost Empires by Gameloft is an amazingly fun fantasy inspired real time strategy game that features 20 campaigns with a fairly interesting - if not entirely inspired - story to drag you along that's supported by a brilliant adaption of the normal strategy controls for the iPhone. One of the great features includes the way in which normal soldiers are automatically "grouped" with your heroes when they're selected together with a two-finger box selection. This makes movement and…

Cat in a Box Games is the other name for iPhone game creator John Kooistra and Red Conquest! is the latest installment in a series of games involving the continuing war of Red and Blue. Where previous installments covered arcade shooters from different angles, Red Conquest is a pure real time strategy (RTS) and a treat to play.
