VERDICT
PES 2010 is almost like a tech-demo for what could be achieved for football gaming on the iPhone, but until the same level of attention to detail is placed on basic features it's a hard game to recommend even to die-hard fans.

The Pro Evolution Soccer series has garnered a lot of respect from some fans of the sport thanks mostly to its weighty and realistic feeling players that smoothly maneuver their way across the pitch with practiced skill. PES 2010 is Konami's first release of their popular franchise on the iPhone and fans can expect the same attention to detail present in its bigger console brothers.
There are three control schemes to choose from, with a classic stick and two-button configuration common to most arcade-style football games being the easiest to jump in with, however the unique tilt and touch-based configurations offer almost as much fidelity and are fun alternatives to explore. Each player on the field feels solid, with the ball being dribbled in any direction you require. The movement animations give weight to your actions and changes in direction will need to be planned in order to prevent an easy steal from the opposition.
While the football gameplay feels great, the same level of attention doesn't seem to have been paid to the various game modes which feature an endless collection of competition play-offs with no real management features. There are plenty of teams to choose from, however other recent releases managed to pay homage much better without direct licences as well.
PES 2010 is lacking in other obvious features like multiplayer games or even basic social integration, making this a hard title to recommend to football fans even despite the superb gameplay.
