Since PUBG and Fortnite parachuted onto mobile last year, there has been an influx of battle royale titles onto the app stores but not all of them have been second-rate clones. Rocket Royale attempts to bring something new to the genre with its focus on crafting.

Developed by GameSpire, the game puts its own twist on PvP by tasking players with escaping from an island, rather than emerging as the last one standing on it. A DIY rocketship is your ticket home, and you must build it by harvesting resources from fallen meteors and recycling debris from environmental destruction.

Virtually everything in Rocket Royale can be blown up and repurposed and players can also use these raw materials to build strongholds to protect their rocket from being hijacked by other users.

Rocket Royale’s PvP contests see 25 players share the battlefield and you can tackle them solo, in pairs or as a squad of three. There are no shrinking deadzones and you won’t be doing any parachuting, but players can use portals to fast-travel across the island.

There are stacks of weapons and items to loot, as well as special hammers, bonus avatars and custom rockets to unlock as you climb the global leaderboards and level up.

Rocket Royale is available as a free download from Google Play and the App Store right now. The game is fully optimised for modest hardware and takes up less than 100MB of storage space.
