PROS

  • Unique and well designed controls.
  • Easy pick-up and play style.

CONS

  • The drawing can be fiddly and somewhat inaccurate.
  • No major extra features.

VERDICT

There's not much meat to this game, but you'll find yourself pleasantly cruising to the end of the game as you enjoy each new track. The perfect "line" may be elusive, but you may find yourself coming back for "one more" try.

DrawRace by RedLynx is a fun spin on old school arcade racers like R.C. Pro-Am, Mario Kart and even the seminal Rock'N'Roll Racing. You'll find yourself drawing your way to victory against computer (and human) opponents as you strive for the perfect lap.

There's not much to the game with almost all the controls given over to your car's AI. Each race begins by literally drawing the path that your car should take from beginning to end through all the laps required. This can be deceptively simple as drawing faster will accelerate your vehicle, while slower drawing will give cars a chance to brake.

In a similar vein to its forefathers, DrawRace keeps things simple with an overhead view with stylish, bright and well designed graphics for the tracks. Things do feel a bit visually repetitive eventually, but with the main focus of gameplay being on the track layout, you'll be thankful they're not playing with things too much so you can concentrate on your laps instead of learning new hazards. Multiplayer comes in the forms of online play or passing the iPhone to other competitors so they can draw their laps.

This is literally a quick time-waster that may not take long to pick up, play and beat, but half the fun is in viewing how successful your drawing skills are and if you have enough time, beat down a few of your friends in time-trials.
