Arcana Agency: Prologue Review
- Complex and interesting story lines always keep you interested.
- A fun throwback to the ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ books.
- The little to no sound or music throughout the game can make gameplay boring.
- The large amount of reading may deter some players.
- Gameplay relies very much on remembering what choices NOT to make in order to progress through the story.
This game requires a lot of reading and a lot of trial and error work to finish the story, but if you have the patience, then there’s a lot here to keep you interested. This may be worth the current price, depending on how you feel about paying for an interactive novel.

Arcana Agency: Prologue is a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ type game which takes you back to the 1930s and puts you in control of Humphrey Brown, an archaeologist turned Private Investigator, as you try to investigate a series of mysteries.
You control Humphrey’s actions by making choices throughout the story. The controls are beyond basic as this is more of an interactive novel than a game, requiring more reading and thinking than quick reflexes. Players tap the screen to make various dialog choices and shake the iPhone to make saving throws during certain events.
The visuals are presented in a static comic book style, which helps players control the speed of which they read the dialog and make choices. The game has no sound besides the occasional dice roll of a saving throw and the 20 seconds of lounge music playing during the title screen. Players also cannot use their iPod while playing the game, making for an unnecessarily quiet experience.
This is a great game, despite having some unfortunate set-backs. While the story boasts around 1000 different story paths, it can get frustrating when you get the game over screen constantly, even after mundane events like looking at a book. However, if you were ever a fan of the ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ novels, complex story lines or a good mystery then Arcana Agency: Prologue may be right up your alley.
