Synth Racing by Race to the Moon is a time-trial racing game that takes all the style and speed from Wipeout, but doesn't quite manage to live up to the game it takes its inspiration from.

The aim of the game here is to reach your goal as quickly as possible. To reach the pinnacle of your potential speed you'll need to avoid these obstacles and collect speed-boosts, so you'll be happy to know that the tilt-controls used to slide your ship around the screen are almost flawless in their response. In fact if they're not to your preference you can calibrate almost every aspect of the tilting to your liking.

Synth Racing is a speed junkie's dream with a pounding sound track, sliding colourful tunnels and obstacles that zip by with phenomenal speed and deadliness, but here's where the problems start. It's entirely possible to go too fast for human response to reliably be used, requiring players to memorise entire levels, complete with the location of speed boosts, not to mention where to move your ship before you've even reached a visible obstacle.

There's a lot of potential in Synth Racing and if nothing else the controls are truly almost psychic, though most players are going to need psychic powers to avoid the clutter of obstacles thrown at them. It's the perfect game for lovers of speed and time-trials, but not quite ready for mass appeal.
