Arrr! Pirates vs. Aliens Review
- Publisher: Red Knight Learning Systems
PROS
- The visuals are really well done and look great.
- The controls are easy to use and simplify gameplay.
CONS
- Aiming your gun can be slow at times.
- The sound effects of your gun firing only works some of the time, more often you’ll be shooting a silent cannon.
- No leaderboard or highscore options besides a total stats display in the menu.
VERDICT
While there are some minor issues, you will still have a great time blasting aliens with a cannon. This game is worth the current price.

Arrr! Pirates Vs Aliens is a rail shooter game for the iPhone. Players are aboard a pirate ship and must shoot all attacking alien forces. Along the way, you collect rum which you can use at the ‘booty store’ to purchase gun upgrades or repair your damaged ship.
The game is controlled by 3 areas at the bottom of the screen. You scroll around in the bottom left corner to control the gun, tap gun itself to change weapon and tap the bottom right corner to fire the gun. While it may sound tricky juggling 3 areas at once, it’s a surprisingly easy way to control the game.
The game’s visuals are look great and make effective use of both 2D and 3D animation. The sound is good, each alien has their own distinct noises and screams, however, the sound effect from your gun seems to work only some of the time. Players can also use their iPod during the game without losing any of the alien or other sound effects. There are no leaderboard options, which seem strange for this type of game, but there is a local scoreboard shown in the main menu.
Arrr! Pirates Vs Aliens is a simple shooting game and delivers what it sets up to be. The great visuals and fun control scheme make this game a pleasure to play, and while there are some issues, hopefully an update will be released to fix these. This game is a good casual play and worth a look at if you enjoy shooting games. ARRR!
