How many times have you played a rhythm game and thought to yourself, "Man, I wish I was able to play my favourite songs"? Boom Shake by apalms has come to the rescue. On the outside it might look like a Tap Tap Revenge clone using a turntable, but its the ability to create and share level tracks for any piece of music you have on your phone that makes this title stand out.

There are five moves when playing a song in Boom Shake. Swipe left or right, turn left or right, or snapping the iphone. The controls can take some time getting used to as when your finger is on the turntable, any small movement can be registered as a swipe, and it can penalize you heavily while playing. In the create mode, the song you have chosen plays and you paste the movements down on the board, with the ability to rewind, delete, and replace notes if you so wish. Based on how many notes you placed in a song, the game automatically chooses the difficulty.

There's not much visually we haven't seen in other rhythm games. Colours are distinct and functional. The sound is as good as the quality of your music library. If you want to download tracks made by others, you do need to own the song you're downloading however.

As a rhythm game, there's nothing new to Boom Shake. It's stock standard, and the turntable can be annoying. It's the creation and sharing tools however that make this a must for any rhythm game fan with an iphone.
