ZENONIA®
Download on the AppStore
4 out of 5

PROS

  • Crisp and polished visual style; looks like a Nintendo DS game.
  • Lengthy story mode will keep you busy.
  • Nice skill tree options.

CONS

  • Controls can be a little ‘iffy’ at times.
  • Gameplay sometimes requires a decent amount of grinding in order to level up for the next quest.
  • Only three character classes to choose from, and they are only slightly different from each other.

VERDICT

If you love RPGs (especially the old school ones) then Zenonia is a must own game and is worth the current price.

Zenonia is an action RPG where you play as a young teen fighting your way through demons and other magical creatures as you embark on a perilous journey. Along the way, you will level up, upgrade your skill tree and purchase new items in order to adapt to and defeat the increasingly challenging enemies before you.

You control your character using the d-pad to move, and tapping the action button to attack, pick-up items or talk to NPCs. There are also four quick access panels, where spells or various items can be assigned to. The game controls well enough, but at times might seem a little off or unresponsive.

While the visuals are a great throwback to the old 16 bit Zelda games, they look like they belong on a handheld console. The sound is diverse and well done; but players can also use their iPod during gameplay if they so desire. The game features a single player story mode only, however the story length should take players around 20-30 hours to finish.

Zenonia is a terrific game and a must have for fans of the old school RPGs. The story is quite long and will keep you busy to say the least. And while the controls work for the most part, there will be times where they won’t do exactly what you want them to do. But besides that and some occasional grinding needed to level up, there is a lot of fun to have killing demons and exploring the far off lands of Zenonia.
