Champion Archer is an action game where you must defend your castle from attacking orcs and other evil creatures. You control an archer on the battlefield and must provide ranged assistance to the allied troops that are marching to defend the castle. Your goal is to survive as long as possible, purchasing upgrades and not allowing any enemies to reach the castle.

You control your archer’s shots by tapping and holding the screen to charge up the shot power and releasing to fire. You will also need to adjust the angle of your shot in order to hit the larger trolls or the smaller, faster goblins. As you kill enemies, you will also earn cash which you can then use to upgrade your archer and allied soldiers.

The visuals look very smooth and are well presented. The sound is also well done, but players are unable to use their iPod during gameplay. The game is single player only and features one main game mode, and highscores and leaderboards options can be tracked via OpenFeint.

Champion Archer is a great example of how Bowman style games should play. The controls are fluid and the gameplay is highly addictive. And while there are some minor repetition issues with the game, the upgrade system helps to freshen up the gameplay. If you are a fan of Castle Defence or Bowman style games then Champion Archer would be a great addition to your iPhone collection.
