Bananagrams is a Scrabble type board game where players must try to use up the bunch of letters they are given in order to create a large joining series of words. The game focuses more of its attention towards online play, requiring you to create an account so you can share leaderboard scores and play versus other players, but there is an offline mode available to players as well.

Seeing as how the game is banana themed, players are given a ‘bunch’ of letter tiles that they must arrange into words. Players tap and drag them into position and must use all letters given to them, or they can swap letters by dragging it back into the pile at the top of the screen. Players must use all of their tiles in some kind of joining figure to complete the game.

Both the visuals and sound are quite basic and unfortunately, players cannot use their iPod during gameplay. The game offers a couple of game modes, including Solitaire, but they’re all just minor variations of the main game mode; which seems to be a bit of a cop-out on the developer’s part, but oh well.

It’s no secret here that all the fun of the Bananagrams lies in its online game mode. Offline does have a pass and play multiplayer option but there are probably better things to do with a friend than play a Scrabble game on your iPhone. If you are opposed to online play, then don’t buy this game but if you love it and word based puzzle games, then you’ll this banana themed puzzle game quite A-peel-ing.

While Bananagrams does offer some decent online multiplayer fun, there isn’t too much else to do and may not be worth the steep current price.
