Who doesn't enjoy a rousing game of ping pong? Now thanks to World Cup Ping Pong on the iPhone, you can, wherever you are. The goal is to play the table as you hit the ping pong ball back and forth with your paddle, trying to score eleven points before your opponent does.

The paddle is controlled by your finger being placed anywhere on the screen. By dragging it, and flicking, you move the paddle and hit the ball. The paddle moves smoothly and responds well, but it's very easy to miss a shot or hit the ball in the wrong direction. You can even put spin on your ball, but it is quite difficult to do so. In arcade mode, half the table is propped up, and the goal is to see how many points you can acquire with three balls. As you play, various circles appear on the wall, awarding you extra points for hitting the ball inside them.

The visuals are passable, and the sound effects are sparse. Neither interfere with the gameplay. In all the modes you can select your world team as well as your paddle (which gives you different attributes). Aside from tournament and arcade mode, there is practice, and a head-to-head mode, facing off against a friend on your iPhone.

World Cup Ping Pong is fun. The controls are simple, but there is a mastery there that will take most people a lot of playtime to get the hang of. There are some decent modes and the price is right. If you have ever had a good time with a ping pong table, you might want to give this game a try.
