Uggles - Collect them ALL
Download on the AppStore
3 out of 5

PROS

  • The bright colourful graphics are nice to look at.
  • The gameplay is simple and easy to master.
  • Unlockable achievements and Uggles give something to aim for.

CONS

  • Only one game mode.
  • No music and minimal sound effects.
  • Tilt controls tricky to master.

VERDICT

Uggles is a game designed around simplicity, which unfortunately is it's downfall. With not enough content to keep you playing for long, kids may enjoy it, but it is better left alone by people wanting more.

Uggles is a simple little game for the iPhone. The goal is to juggle your uggles and prevent them hitting the ground. The longer you keep your little friends airborne, the higher your score, but beware! Just one dropped Uggle will result in game over.

There really is not much to this game, and it feels like it is targeted at a younger audience. The visuals are simple, yet colourful and cartoonish enough to hold attention for awhile. Your creatures long arms are quite comical and the uggles bouncing around have a cute look about them. The sound is lacking with only one sound effect for when hitting an Uggle, and another when you miss. There is no music apart from the game over screen, and no option to play your iPod while in game.

There are two control options, touch or tilt. The touch controls have you pressing buttons on the screen to move into position, while the tilt obviously has you tilting the iPhone in the direction you want to move. While the tilt controls are more fun to use, they are much less precise than using buttons to move into the perfect position.

There are multiple achievements and uggles to unlock which may keep you coming back, but there does not seem to be any difference between the uggles, so it seems pointless. You are also able to upload your highscores to a leaderboard via OpenFeint. Overall, if you are looking for a game for the kids this could be some fun, but if you want a game to hold your attention for more than 2 minutes, look elswhere.
