If you’re thinking Derek Jeter Real Baseball is the newest baseball game to hit the iTunes stores, then you are wrong. According to Gameloft, it is a baseball simulation and must be addressed as such. Nevertheless, in this ‘simulation’ you’ll take to the field along side baseball legend Derek Jeter in America’s favourite past-time.

There are two control schemes that players will use; one for pitching and one for batting. Pitching requires you to choose a pitch style and then tap the screen to adjust power and accuracy meters, while batting requires you to tap an area in the small pitch box at the right time to slug the ball out of the park; pretty straightforward.

As always, Gameloft’s visuals are fantastic and they’ve spared no expense in the detail of players, the field and the crowd. The audio is also exceptional featuring a commentary track, engaging sound effects and the option to use your iPod during play. There are a few modes that players can work through, including Season, Playoffs and a Home Run Contest, but the game doesn’t feature any multiplayer options.

As far as simulations go Derek Jeter Real Baseball really isn’t one. It doesn’t include any teams from the MLB but instead hosts a strange combination of real players with fake teams. However the game itself is well developed with tons of visual detail, some great sound and easy to use control scheme, making this a must have title if you’re a big baseball fan.

While this may not be the simulation that Gameloft boasts it to be, Derek Jeter Real Baseball is still an enjoyable and worthwhile purchase if you’re a fan of the sport.
