PROS

  • Excellent opening movie.
  • Easy to use controls.

CONS

  • Tracks seem almost identical with only minor changes.
  • Loses its entertainment value quickly.
  • No multi-player enabled.

VERDICT

Players should grab the reigns and steer clear of this game if they are looking for something that offers a good challenge and great re-playability as the game offers neither and players will be left feeling severely disappointed.

History has come to life with United Soft Media's debut release Ben- Hur Live! Based on the epic film and touring stage show, Ben Hur Live! is an action packed chariot racing game where players must race for glory across three big arenas in Rome, Egypt and Jerusalem.

Players race their chariots by tapping on their own horses to increase their speed and sliding their finger across the screen to steer. Getting the right balance between speed and endurance is key to attaining victory in the game. Players will also need to fend off attacks made by rival chariots whilst racing which players can do by tapping on their opponents horses. Currently the game is only single player and this is somewhat disappointing as the AI becomes more predictable and less challenging as the game progresses.

The game itself is not bad looking as the graphics are decent, the menu design is laid out well and the opening movie is rather pleasing. The gameplay design and mechanics however are what lets this game down the most and the soundtrack isn't too fantastic either which together does dull down the overall game experience.

Although Ben Hur: Live is an excellent introduction to the horse racing genre for iPhone users it does lack the intensity, suspense and overall excitement of the original movie and isn't recommended for fans of the film or those looking for a serious challenge.
