Star Wars: Cantina Review

I guess it was really only a matter of time before the App Store was graced with a Star Wars themed management game. You play as Nia Adea in THQ Wireless' latest game Star Wars: Cantina and being the friendly happy-go-lucky lass that you are, you plunge headlong in to the world of managing a cantina to help your friend.

Cantina keeps things simple and only requires tapping to perform actions. To counter this simplicity the game quickly throws you in the deep end, serving up more rowdy customers and more drink orders to keep you on your toes. Nia moves like a ninja, which can make it all too easy to stumble and hand out orders incorrectly if you're trying to keep ahead of the curve. Once you've calmed down, all that's left is the complexity of the management.

Just like the controls, Cantina is a toned down management game and opts to take some of the more mundane tasks out of your hands, such as placement of customers. While this reduces some of the stress, Cantina raises the bar of difficulty by making customers quick to deplete in happiness and gives you larger group numbers to handle. The music reflects the game's cute 2D art-style which is ripe for a Saturday morning cartoon and gives the usual Star Wars themes a lighter tone.

Star Wars is a hefty franchise that may have a built-in audience, but THQ haven't skimped on the quality. Cantina isn't as fully featured as some of the popular management games, but it's perfect for younger gamers and those after a less mind-bending challenge.
