PROS

  • Avatar customisation options available to players.
  • Solid online play options.
  • Improved visuals and design.

CONS

  • Requires annoying profile creation before you can even play the game.
  • Only three available tracks in the game and all other tracks need to be bought from the store.
  • Previously purchased TTR 2 tracks cannot be transferred or used in TTR 3.

VERDICT

Tap Tap Revenge 3 makes its money not in application price but in the extra content you will need to buy, and because of this, the game may not be worth the current price to some players.

Tap Tap Revenge 3 is the latest sequel to the highly popular series of music and rhythm games for the iPhone. Players must tap the targets to the beat of the songs in order to max out their score. If you have played any of the other Tap Tap Revenge games, you’ll have an idea of what is featured here.

The controls are the same as they’ve always been; players tap the different targets when the falling balls reach them. A small tap meter will show how accurate the tapping is, with more points awarded for greater accuracy. Score multipliers and other bonuses can be activated by way of star power.

The visuals are polished and look great. Certain songs have different visually themed backgrounds and players can now create their own in-game avatar. The sound quality is sharp and players can customise their own set list, beyond the three tracks provided - but at a further cost. The game offers a number of modes including single player, multiplayer and improved online modes, each with leaderboard access.

Tap Tap Revenge 3 is an exciting and improved addition to the music and rhythm genre. The inclusion of new features will please fans of the series, but the hidden costs involved in track purchases may upset some.
