Gold Miner Joe is a platforming game based on the PC title of the same name. This new port for the iPhone has players guiding Joe the Gold Miner through the legendary four-shafted gold mine. Your goal is to find all the gold nuggets and hidden gems without being killed by the Kentucky Brothers or any other nasties waiting in the mines.

Players control Joe by using the iPhone’s touch screen interface. You move by swiping in the appropriate direction, jump by swiping up and throw rocks to attack by tapping the screen. Players can also use dynamite to kill enemies or reveal secrets by tapping and holding the dynamite icon. The controls aren’t the smoothest and take some time to get used to as they can be a bit awkward.

Visually the game is on par with the original and has that distinct Donut Games style to it. The sound features a number of humorous sound effects and some fun music but players cannot use their iPod during gameplay. While the game is single player only, there are a ton of levels to play through, with the option of repeating them for higher scores.

Gold Miner Joe is a game that fans of old school platformers like Super Mario will enjoy. The game offers plenty of levels to play through and will keep you entertained for a long time. Your only real issue here might be getting used to the controls scheme but this is only a minor annoyance. So if you enjoy humorous gameplay and are a little old school, then Gold Miner Joe is worth a look at.
