PROS

  • Very addictive rhythm gameplay.
  • The Thumpies are...unique.

CONS

  • Some of the Thumpies might scare smaller children.

VERDICT

Similar to Beat it, this is a rhythm game where you build music track by track. The rest of the game is in a league of its own.

Rhythm games are fun right? People like furry creatures right? Well what if there was a game that combined them? Thumpies by Big Blue Bubble is a game where you tap drums or mushrooms and furry heads bounce on them in order to fill a score meter, and eventually create a song.

Control consists of tapping the appropriate drum when a Thumpy hits it. If you continue to be accurate in your timing, the Thumpy will become electric and your score will double, completing the current track much faster. During the game there are butterflies that float around. If you tap on them and collect them before the Thumpies gobble them up, you can unlock much more bizarre Thumpies.

And boy are the Thumpies bizarre. If they are meant to be cute, the mark was missed, as they are more horrifying than anything. That being said, they are visually interesting and are good for a chuckle as they're bouncing around. The sound is varied and high quality, which is really a must in any rhythm game. There is only the main mode, but with plenty of levels, unlockables and difficulties, you should be kept busy.

Thumpies is a fresh breath of air in the rhythm genre, that should appeal to all ages. Building a song track by track is fun, and the varied and strange Thumpies keep the game visually interesting. Thumpies is Definitely worth a look.
