FarmVille by Zynga
Download on the AppStore
4 out of 5

  • Fun, simple management gameplay.
  • Farmville minus the frills.
  • Easy to use interface.

  • Of course, you need a net connection to play, so it's not 100% 'on the go'.
  • That annoying music loop!

Farmville for your iPhone is a great way for players to access their farm without the need of a PC, but it's no replacement for the full experience on your browser.

No matter how you feel about Farmville, whether you're sick of it clogging up your Facebook account or if you're a helpless thrall to its addictive gameplay, you have to admire just how much Zynga understands social gaming. Now that Farmville is available for iDevices, you can stay connected almost wherever you are and strangely enough it may even help to ease the stress of staying updated.

A smart-touch system is used to help perform most basic actions like harvesting, planting and plowing while advanced options like shifting objects or using machinery are easily accessed either via the menu or holding your finger down on specific objects. Recently used crops are also easier to select as they pop up on a circular menu when touching plowed areas. Placement of objects can be a bit finicky and a zoomed in view helps, but it's definitely easier to use the website interface for advanced jobs.

Farmville's signature art design for their interface and objects have been replicated almost perfectly, however objects will need to be loaded off the server the first time they're used. It's a shame that frills like having your farmer or dog work around the field are strangely absent for this version of the game, but exclusive bonuses are available for you and your friends who also play via an iDevice.

Farmville for your iPhone is no replacement for the real thing and is definitely aimed towards players already waist deep in the game, but it's still a fun first step for new players.
