'Ninjatown: Trees Of Doom!' could have easily been another tower-defense game, but Venan Entertainment have proven they don't need lightning to strike twice and have made an endless vertical game that just has to be tried.

It all started with 'Wee Ninja', a tiny character designed by former EGM editor Shawn Smith. Thanks to developer Venan Entertainment the concept quickly blossomed in to 'Ninjatown', a tower-defense game for the Nintendo DS. Venan are no strangers to the iPhone and instead of another tower-defense game, their latest game 'Ninjatown: Trees Of Doom!' switches things up as an endless vertical jumper.

Trees Of Doom takes a minimalistic approach to the controls, using a single-finger control scheme. Wee Ninja is out to impress his Master by climbing a tree packed with doom in the form of poisonous sap, Mr. Demon's minions and even slippery wood. Players can touch the screen to climb; tap the opposite side of the screen to jump across; and if you're hanging on a branch you can drag to aim your jump.

The same simple designs from Ninjatown have been kept for Trees Of Doom, however unlike the blocky pixel-art from the DS version the 2D sprites are smooth and fully animated. Various power-ups including teleportation and a 'mustache ride' will help you to scale the tree faster while you raise an eyebrow and have a chuckle.

And it's 'Ninjatown: Trees Of Doom!'s humor that helps it to quickly charm its way to the top of your must play list. While there are plenty of other vertical jumpers available on the App Store, Ninjatown's polished and unique gameplay will keep you glued to your screen again and again.
