Ahh MapleStory - I lost a weekend of my life to your promises of fun beat'em-up platforming only to realize I didn't have the stamina to endlessly grind away all of my spare time. Sadly the free PC MMO has infiltrated the App Store and threatened to consume my life again and I must delve in to MapleStory Thief Edition in order to warn you, our readers/viewers of the dangers within.

MapleStory has always had a fairly simple platforming design and translating the gameplay to the App Store has been easy enough, with a d-pad for movement, two buttons for jumping and attacking and several buttons on the side of the screen to use as 'hotkeys' for your abilities or special items. Sadly none of the controls feel responsive enough as the player jumps and moves with difficulty, making the idea of a nimble and agile thief all but a complete pipe-dream.

For those who can live with the lackluster controls you're in for a fairly epic grind as your player will be subjected to ever increasing challenges of 'kill x' or 'collect x' quests in an attempt to gain more levels and equipment to 'kill x' or 'collect x'. All the visual charm from the online game has found its way in to the iPhone title, but this also means players will need to put up with some extremely annoying features such as the screen not continuing to scroll while trying to fight creatures in the bottom corners of each level.

If you weren't a fan of MapleStory before picking up 'Thief Edition' then this is a hard title to recommend.
