PROS

  • Fine-tune controls to replace 'power' management.
  • Bright, cute visual style.
  • Clever use of physics.

CONS

  • Loose physics can be challenging to judge.
  • Oddly immature theme.

VERDICT

Putting aside the overall theme, Pee Monkey Plant Bloom isn't as finely tuned as other popular physics puzzlers, but still manages to remain fun despite this.

There's just no getting around it... things are going to be said and I'm in the unfortunate position of having to say them, but it's hard not to feel a little bit weird when you start talking about Pee Monkey Plant Bloom by happylatte. I mean, the name says it all really; you'll need to pee on plants with a monkey to help the garden to grow.

The gameplay itself is not unlike that of games like Angry Birds and players have a limited amount of... 'shots'... to make the plants bloom. Dragging an arrow helps you to set the rough trajectory, while tiny buttons provide fine-tuning options that are extremely handy as many puzzles rely on ricochets. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, your projectiles have a basic set of properties to help you along, bouncing of surfaces or pushing blocks around depending on where it lands. Fans also help to spray things around, though I try not to dwell on this for too long.

Perhaps one of my favorite things about Plant Bloom is the apt and cute artwork, with your monkey literally busting at the seams (likely from over-consumption of coffee) while his girlfriend looks on casually. Once you've 'helped' things along your monkey smiles with pride as the girl grimaces in disgust. Don't worry girl monkey, we're right there with you.

Pee Monkey Plant Bloom isn't an easy game, but it's hard not to crack a bit of a smile while you're playing it. I'm not entirely sure what the developers were thinking when the concept came along, but I'm glad it did and it's an easy game to recommend to fans of physics based puzzles.
