Zombigotchi
Download on the AppStore
3 out of 5

PROS

  • Tonnes of randomized interactions.
  • Unlockable costumes and mini-games.

CONS

  • More of a toy than a game; only one mini-game is an actual game too.

VERDICT

Zombigotchi may not be a game in the true sense of having a goal to achieve, but after exploring as many interactions as you can you'll have a couple mini-games to enjoy as well.

Tamagotchi was easily one of the first things I willingly tried to forget about the 90s, but it was hard to escape the madness of these egg-shaped fiends. However fate clearly has other plans for me as I now face Zombigotchi by finkbom and I've taken solace in the fact that the idea of having a pet zombie isn't exactly so bad.

At first there's not a lot in the way of actual gameplay for Zombigotchi, or rather the act of stabbing buttons or stroking your zombie is really only a toy designed to create responses from the strangely emotive undead creature. Players can opt to be nice, mean or feed their zombie and over time you'll elicit one of dozens of reactions that are amusing to watch. There's no real 'growth' of your pet over time, however as you play around you'll slowly unlock new costumes and more importantly some 'subgames' to provide some substance to the App.

What makes Zombigotchi hard to put down is the sheer variety of responses that come from your zombie and the insane amount of detail that has gone in to making a vicious creature in to a loveable pet.

It would have been great if there was more to do in terms of helping your zombie to grow or to personalize it in some way, but Zombigotchi succeeds in being entertaining despite its limitations. Definitely worth grabbing if you're in need of a chuckle now and then.
