PROS

  • The art style is reminiscent of a children's story book.
  • The power-ups are fun.

CONS

  • Rather bland and sometimes frustrating gameplay.
  • The one song playing during the levels gets annoying fast.

VERDICT

Most likely meant for a younger audience, the cuteness of Clay and his world will appeal to that demographic, but other players will likely find this too bland to be of much fun.

It's time to access the dictionary! Reverie means a dreamy meditation or fanciful musing, but you probably already knew that. The small puffy blob known as Clay must be dreaming, and he needs to reach the end of his dreams safely while collecting as many stars as possible.

This game is a balance of two control schemes that can be seen to be fighting against each other. The level is constantly moving forward and you need to avoid all the obstacles. Clay is stuck on a horizontal bar that using the tilt function, he can roll back and forward on. On top of this, the bar can be moved with a finger up or down on the screen. Using these two in tandem (plus the power ups) is needed to collect every star and reach the end safely.

Now the power ups add some enjoyment to the proceedings (as the levels can be kind of bland, especially with that one level track playing over and over again). There are four power ups that Clay can gobble down. The rock busts through obstacles, the bunny slows everything down, the uh... green vegetable thing makes Clay super slim, and the bomb turns him explode-y. Every time they appear it's for a specific purpose which shouldn't be difficult to figure out, but they do perk things up a bit.

Clay's Reverie moves at a very slow pace punctuated by some power up induced amusement. The art is cute and happy, but most people are probably going to be bored by what's on offer here. This one's either for a younger audience or those who really are invested in the art style.
