Get Assassin’s Creed Pirates for a steal on the App Store today

If you've been on the fence about Assassin’s Creed Pirates, now might be the perfect time you climb onboard. You see, Ubisoft has just dropped the price of the naval battle game to £1.49 / $1.99 This mobile tie-in to Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag has you sailing the Caribbean as Alonzo Batilla, an eager young Captain willing to do anything to make his fortune. Taking part in fierce naval battles, you must scupper enemy vessels, and capture anything from frigates to Man-o-Wars to aid your conquest of the West-Indies. The latest update also lets you partake in whale hunting. It may be a little less glamourous - and it but more cruel - than the game's other…

Hands-on with Assassin's Creed Memories, the card battler that manages to make aerial assassinations a bit dull

Hands-on with Assassin's Creed Memories, the card battler that manages to make aerial assassinations a bit dull

As a long-time fan of the Assassin's Creed series, I've been eagerly awaiting another really strong mobile tie-in game since the rather smashing Assassin's Creed Pirates. The news of a card battler - which as regular viewers will know is one of my favourite genres - being combined with Assassin's Creed was exciting indeed. It's with a heavy heart then that I have to report that Assassin's Creed Memories is a bit dull, or in the very least the soft-launched version in the Australian App Store is a bit dull. Slow-moving, overly-complex, and only the faintest of connections to the Assassin's Creed universe make the game in its current state a disappointment. Here's my hands-on video explainin…

Upcoming CCG Assassin’s Creed Memories lets you hop through history

Ubisoft has joined forces with Gree and PlayNext to deliver an all new free-to-play installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise: a CCG called Assassin’s Creed Memories. Digital card-battling has been increasing in popularity recently. The genre’s ability to mix the card combat with RPG leveling and strategic elements have sucked players in, while the booster-pack IAPs have attracted publishers and developers. Ubisoft seems to be planning to tap directly into this popularity, utilising its Assassin’s Creed franchise as the foundation. Inviting you into a new mobile Animus, you have to travel through history with the aim of building a powerful guild, recruitin…

Assassin's Creed Pirates gets a new mission with the Freedom update

Ubisoft has added yet more content to Assassin's Creed Pirates, this time with the Freedom update. The update brings with it a wealth of riches, but the biggest haul is a new chapter appendix. An improved daily reward system also lets you gain increasingly valuable treasures for repeat visits to the game. Random booty has been scattered throughout the Caribbean seas, too, while syncing your account with your Facebook profile will earn you a special gift. Assassin's Creed Pirates | Hands-On

Ubisoft has just announced that Assassin's Creed Pirates, its seafaring iOS tie-in to console release Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, will drop anchor in App Store waters on December 5th. However, it just so happens that we've got our hooked hands on a preview build of the privateering sim, and have been putting it through its peg-legged paces. Cast as salty scoundrel Alonzo Batilla, you must sail the seas of the Caribbean blowing up other ships, looting treasure, and generally being a bit piratey. If you want to see what all of that looks like, then cast your eyes over our hands-on video below, in which I guide you through the first 15 minutes of the game.…

Grand Theft Auto V, Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and more: all the companion apps for the biggest console games of 2014

'Tis the season for some good old fashioned console gaming. There's nothing quite like firing up the PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo, and getting stuck into some meaty AAA video games. As mobile is such a big thing these days, the console folk have started integrating mobile and tablet companion apps into their titles in an effort to enhance the experience when you can't be at your TV. So if you're lucky enough to be playing the latest Grand Theft Auto, FIFA, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, or some other huge release from 2014, you should check out the list below to see if a companion app is available. There she blows! Assassin's Creed Pirates gets whale hunting in latest update

Being a pirate ain't all sword fighting and rum, you know. Sometimes you have to get down to the messy stuff – whale hunting, that were the real money is. Luckily, Ubisoft has just released an update to Assassin's Creed Pirates which adds whale hunting to the navel warfare gameplay. As well as letting you harpoon the gentle giants of the deep, the update also brings a handful of other new features. Those of a zoologically persuasion will be able to collect 50 species of Caribbean fish. If this isn't your cup of grog, however, there are also two new ships and six additional boss fights to unlock. A survival mode wraps up the list of updates, challenging you to live though a wave…

Is Assassin's Creed - Identity the mobile Assassin's Creed game we've been waiting for?

Is Assassin's Creed - Identity the mobile Assassin's Creed game we've been waiting for?

I'll keep this brief: Ubisoft has just soft-launched Assassin's Creed - Identity in Australia and New Zealand. Unlike the card games and companion apps Ubisoft has served up to iOS gamers in the past, this fully 3D "action RPG" is a close to a full-blown Assassin's Creed game as we've ever seen on mobile. Like its console counterpart, the game lets you explore ancient cities, leaping from rooftop to rooftop before stabbing-up some unsuspecting nobleman. Watch our hands-on with the soft-launch version of Assassin's Creed - Identity below. You can download the game right now if you live in Australia or New Zealand. The rest of the world will have to wait until 2015 for the game to go glob…

Turn your iPad into a treasure map with Assassin's Creed IV Companion app

If you're planning to find buried treasure and sail the seven seas in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, then you're going to need that most essential of pirating tools: a map. Rather than having you pause the game to rifle through sub-menus, though, Ubisoft has provided iPad owners with a companion app which transforms your tablet into a treasure map. Now available from the App Store, the Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Companion app features a fully interactive map of the Carribean waters featured in the game. It allows you to view objectives, track your progress - even set real time waypoints for your ship to follow.   As well as using the app to help you navigate while you play, yo…

OMG Pirates! Review

OMG Pirates! Review

From the developer that brought you mass zombie slaughter in Zombieville USA comes the next beat'em up action adventure from Mika Mobile, OMG Pirates. Slaughtering pirates en masse couldn't be more fun, but that doesn't mean it'll be easy. The controls are a simple affair, which not only gives Pirates an old school feel, but makes the game easier to deal with on the iPhone. You move your nimble ninja with a virtual analogue stick and jump, counter, combo and flip out with the aid of t…

Land, ho! Ubisoft to release Assassin's Creed Pirates on December 5th

Land, ho! Ubisoft to release Assassin's Creed Pirates on December 5th

Get ready to haul anchor, hoist the mainsail, and prime the cannons: Assassin's Creed Pirates is coming to iOS next week. A spin-off to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, this seabound adventure puts you in control of a sleuthing seadog named Alonzo Batilla. It's up to you to maintain Batilla's vessel and look after your crew as you sail across the Caribbean in search of the answer to an ancient - and probably profitable - riddle. Though the character interactions are handled via crude text bubbles, you will get the chance to steer your ship and do battle with other pirate vessels in real time. Early impressions are promising, with the game comprising loads of different combat mini-games…

Chillingo is releasing base building strategy game Gang of Pirates later this year

Chilllingo is partnering with Nitro Games to bring a new social strategy game called Gang of Pirates to the App Store later this year. The premise for Gang of Pirates will be more than familiar to veterans of Clash of Clans and Boom Beach - though with some rum-swilling nautical debauchery added to the mix. You must build a stronghold on an island of pirates, and developing your base lets you better train and deck out your seafaring troops. Building your defences better fortifies the settlement. That whole thing. Once you're happy with your fortress, its time to attack your unfortunate island neighbours. Sending your fleet to battle other players switches the game to a tactical battle v…

Assassin's Creed II Discovery Review
