To coincide with the re-release of The Phantom Menace in 3d, it's obvious that Lucasfilm would release some game tie-ins. You know, usually average action adventure or racing games that reflect sequences or the plot of the movie. Your usual fare. To that end, it was rather surprising and encouraging to play Star Wars Pit Droids. Not only is it a rather decent licensed game, it's also a pretty simple puzzle game whose difficulty rises nicely until you're pulling your hair out wondering why solutions aren't presenting themselves to you, like every good puzzle game should do.

What makes this puzzle game so simple? The pit droids need to be led to safety. You, as the player, need to need to guide them with arrows otherwise they'll just walk in to harm's way, or a barrier. Soon droids of different colors appear and need to be guided to their separate safe zones with arrows that only affect their color. This basic premise lends itself to a gradual increase in difficulty and concepts in levels that usually have more than one solution. Soon what became an easy guidance through stages turns into careful examination of the map to place arrows optimally, not just to gain three stars, but to get through the level in the first place.

The map can be zoomed in and out by pinching, the touch of a finger moves the camera around the screen, and tapping on the grid opens up the menu to place an arrow of your choosing and direction there. For the most part this works fine, but there were quite a few instances of tapping the wrong grid piece for placement.

Aside from this, the visuals support the gameplay and the music is a nice accompaniment to your puzzle solving efforts. Both Star Wars and puzzle fans should find something to enjoy in this title.
