Eye on the App Store: Rival Knights, Sky Force 2014, and more on Twitch! (5pm UK | 9am Pacific | 12 noon Eastern)

It's the middle of the week - you know what that means. No, not a general feeling of ennui and exhaustion! It means it's time for our weekly installment of Eye on the App Store over on our Twitch channel. As per usual, we'll be looking at the latest releases of the week. Some out at midnight tonight, some already out, and one that's returning to the App Store. A veritable mix on all accounts! Today our headliner are Rival Knights, Sky Force 2014, 99 Bricks Wizard Academy, and Scuba Diving Adventures, but there may be one or two more up our sleeves. AppSpy Plays: Battleheart Legacy, live on Twitch! (5pm UK | 9am Pacific | 12 noon Eastern)

Just in case our video review of Battleheart Legacy last week wasn't enough to help you decide on picking up Battleheart Legacy, we'll be playing it as part of our regular Twitch broadcasting. Our Alex called the game an "attractive, fully-featured action-RPG with elegant controls, let down only by its slightly laborious combat system." If you have already bought it, fret not - we still need you to come along and point our James in the right direction! Give us your best hints, tips, and techniques so that we can storm through the session for our onlookers. The stream starts over on our Twitch channel at 5pm UK / 9am Pacific / 12 noon Eastern, but we'll have a short little natter with…

Genre Busters: Console Calamities - live on Twitch (5pm UK | 9am Pacific | 12 noon Eastern)

Over here at AppSpy we like to start the week just like all the other whippersnappers our age. Lists, and plenty of 'em! And boy, do we have a list show on our Twitch channel for you today. Genre Busters: Console Calamities will be exploring the grimey underbelly of misled publishers and developers who sold their soul for a quick buck - trashy titles with the names of beloved console properties emblazoned across them. Whether they're riddled with IAP jiggery-pokery, flawed controls, and / or just downright dreadful intrusive ads, we're going to name and shame them. We want to know which you've been most disgusted by. If you have played any of these games, there's a good chance you will ne…

Hyper Square Review

Review SIGONO INC. By Alex Beech, 9 years, 10 months ago
Hyper Square Review

Remember those shape sorter toys you had as a kid? The ones where you had to squeeze shaped blocks through similarly-shaped holes? Hyper Square is essentially an amped-up, caffiene addled version of the same toy. Instead of manipulating wooden shapes, however, you're swiping, re-sizing, and spinnimh digital squares into virtual targets. These mechanics are introduced one at a time. First, the game asks you to simply drag or fling squares towards their goal with the swipe of a fin…

The Pocket Gamer Podcast: Live on Twitch! (5pm UK | 9am Pacific | 12 noon Eastern)

Peter’s back from his Barcelona business trip just in time to join us for this week’s installment of the Pocket Gamer Podcast. Today, both he and James will be tackling this week’s news not just for iOS, but also Android, 3DS, PS Vita, Ouya, and any other platforms they can think of. We’d love it if you could pop by for an e-chinwag with us in the chat window. A friendly hello'll go a long way, as will a cohesive argument for why Weed Firm shouldn't have been removed from the App Store. Especially whilst the travesty that is free-to-play Peggle is still being subjected to Kiwis via their App Store. We’ll be streaming from our Twitch channel from 5pm…

Frantic twitch puzzler Hyper Square is on the App Store now

Frantic twitch puzzler Hyper Square is on the App Store now

Hyper Square, a frantic twitch based puzzle game from Team Signal, is out now on the App Store. The gameplay revolves around swiping squares into portals to make them disappear. While the basics may seem easy, however, Team Signal adds increasingly more complex layers of mechanics, requiring you to resize and rotate tiles against the clock before flinging them into the requisite portal. Hyper Square’s vibrant aesthetic keeps the gameplay visually interesting and exciting, while also managing to increase its sense of urgency with its pulsing lines and colours. Despite this it remains quite minimal, ensuring that even at its most fraught you are able to follow what is going on.…

dEXTRIS Review

Review Chaotic Box By Alex Beech, 9 years, 11 months ago
dEXTRIS Review

Dextris is twitch gaming distilled down to its purest form. Controlling two neon coloured blocks in unison, your simple task is to dodge left and right as you rocket endlessly upwards through its vertically-scrolling course. By default, the pink and blue squares you command sit happily in the middle of the screen. Holding the right side of the screen causes both blocks to shoot rapidly to the right and grind their way up the wall. Hold the left side, and you'll get the opposite result…

You requested it, so we're back again with more Surgeon Simulator! In case you missed our last playthrough shortly after Surgeon Simulator launched on the iPad, our catch-up article is over here. Today, James will be doing his best to avoid being a butterfingers with all manner of sharp utensils while Peter gives him advice and tries not to laugh too hard at the inevitable mistakes that will arise. Dexterity testing downhill skier Dudeski is now free on the App Store

Back in March we were enjoying the Winter Paralympics on the TV, and downhill skier Dudeski on our iPhones. While the real games are over, Dudeski's arcade styling can still be enjoyed - and for free, no less. Making your way to the bottom of the game’s pixilated Lord Shred mountain is not just a simple matter of weaving through the course’s slalom gates. Each of the mountain’s four stages are filled with different obstacles, from fallen tree’s to Yetis, all of which will end your run is not avoided. It is only by skillfully dodging all of these hazards that you'll make it to the finish line. If that wasn’t enough, there is also an avalanche chasing yo…
