PROS

  • A novel concept.
  • Most levels can be completed with patience plus trial and error.

CONS

  • The addition of the white blood cells adds a frustrating element of luck to the gameplay.
  • We would have liked control over the sprinting.

VERDICT

Tiny Invaders is a solid first effort from Hogrocket that should give players some enjoyment without straining their brains, even if the game can get a little frustrating.

Here's a scary thought. Imagine that the bacteria in your body was actually an invasion force of aliens looking to infect humanity one human at a time. Now imagine that you're actively helping them carry out their plans. That's the premise behind Tiny Invaders. It's like that animated sequence from the TV series of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, except a small dog is nowhere in sight.

You infect each human from the ground up, which takes fifteen bite sized levels. In each level the invaders travel around the blood stream, and you have to tap on blood vessels to allow the invaders to travel down different pathways, collecting all the orbs in the level. Tapping on the invaders themselves will give them a boost, while collecting gold orbs will allow you an extra invader when you circle back around. After infecting your first human, white blood cells are introduced. Running into one of these will pop you back at the start of the level. With limited control over your boost, this enters an element of luck into the game which becomes more frustrating than challenging.

The graphics and are very nice with good character design and despite the fact you're infecting people's bodies, there's not much to visually disgust anyone. The sound has an overly disconcerting tone aided with some ambient sound effects. There are four humans to infect. Sixty levels in all, with more to come in the future, and for those looking for more, the star system is linked to how fast you can complete a level.

Despite a few quibbles, Tiny Invaders is an excellent first effort from Hogrocket. If you'd like to aid in the downfall of the human race, this is worth a try.
