App Wrap Up (Tuesday Edition, 30th October 2012)

By Dave Flodine, on October 30, 2012

Hey hey everyone. I'll quell the rumours right now - this is not going to be a Halloween themed App Wrap Up. There really just werent that many Halloween themed games that look good enough to feature, and besides, there's a bit of a backlog when it comes to interesting titles for this column. As always, we're showing off the trailers of games that look like they might have something interesting to offer, and any analysis is based on said trailers. Ok, let's get started.

Cpt. Backwater (Intermediaware)

This is a puzzle game, the trailer makes that very clear. How it works though is a little harder to figure out. It looks like how have to slide objects into each other (possibly to make matches), and there are lots of special items and power-ups to help you. Also the pirate theme can be a lot fun.

Smashing Robots (MiniWorldGames LTD)

A very striking art style, a lot of bouncing around, and the title promises destruction. This looks to be one of those games you can plough through a couple levels of during the ad breaks of your favourite shows.

Take it Easy (Ravensburger Digital GmbH)

Another puzzle game, what are the odds? This one is based off a board game, and with its multiple modes, and forming score chains in multiple directions gameplay, i think any puzzle fan would enjoy what Take it Easy looks to offer.

KRIZL (Rekim Ltd)

This might be the puzzle edition of the App Wrap Up, now moving from board games to crosswords. Krizl has the crossword already finished, and then has rotated the squares to mix it up, and it's your job to untangle it. With the puzzles all having word themes, i could see a lot of fun derived from this if you're a fan of low key puzzle experiences.

Rebound Beat (Roughsoft LLC)

This is more of an action puzzle game than a puzzle game (like Smashing Robots above), but we've got a theme going, so we'll allow it! Position the drums so that when the balls fall, the rhythm matches the time sheet underneath. To be honest this could be very frustrating, especially if you're not musically inclined, but i'm sure there are players that will be spending hours perfecting their drum angles to match the beat presented.

Well that's another edition finished up. If you have tried any of these games or are going to give them a try, let us know what you think in the comments, and till next time, enjoy your gaming (oh, and have a great Halloween all)!
