App Wrap Up (Weekend Edition, 7th Jan 2013)

By , on January 7, 2013

Well aren't you lucky readers! Not only did you get to end last week with myself and the App Wrap Up, but you get to start this week exactly the same way! As always we are going to be looking at a collection of game trailers that look like they have something interesting to offer, and I will make brief comments on them, and then link to the App Store in case you wish to purchase them for yourself (and if you do, be sure to tell us what you think of the game in the comments). Without further ado, let's get started!

Pixel Defenders Puzzle (Social Titans)

You know how Puzzle Quest took Bejeweled, added some RPG mechanics and made a really engaging game? Well it looks like this is what Social Titans are trying to with Triple Town. Matching three of the same type of character upgrades them, and there's certainly a strategy to the placement of your heroes. Throw in some chiptune music, and you got a potentially addictive game on your hands.

Beat Runner (RK Games Studios)

This one looks like it takes inspiration from Bit.Trip Runner, and seeing how I love that game, my interest was piqued. Beat Runner has a really clever aesthetic, especially in its level design. My one concern watching the gameplay footage is that it didn't quite seem to have the platforming link up with what was happening in the music, or at least some of the movements seemed arbitrary. Other than that, looks like a blast for rhythm game enthusiasts!

Me Monstar: Hear me Roar! (Cohort Studios Ltd)

So apparently when you can't remember a dream, that's because a monster ate it. While this game looks to focus on a lot of bodily function humour in its powerups, it has a very interesting vibe to it, and I reckon it could be quite an engaging experience.

Beanie - the TransformBean (Smilee Studio.)

This one kind of breaks all the rules here. The gameplay doesn't start till about a minute in, there seems to be an emphasis of unlocks and collectables, and it's a mini-game compliation... but there's something in the brief footage of the gameplay that looks chaotic enough to be enjoyable... so i'm going with my instinct on this one.

And thus another edition of the App Wrap Up ends. Thanks for reading, and till the next installment, enjoy your gaming all!
