Asphalt 5 Review

The people at Gameloft have made a name for themselves delivering high quality iPhone clones of popular console games. And Asphalt 5 is no exception, this time copying the Burnout racing series. Players compete in a series of street and city races and can knock out opponents by ramming them into walls and other obstacles to get a winning edge.

Players control their cars by tilting the iPhone back and forth to steer and pressing the brake and nitro buttons to slow down and speed up respectively. Acceleration is automatic so all players have to worry about is steering and avoiding crashes. Also, there are more control schemes that you might want to take advantage of instead of the tilting controls as they can be a bit hectic.

As usual with Gameloft releases, the visual presentation looks great. The environments and cars are very detailed and the game has a smooth frame rate. The sound is quite good and offers players the option to use their iPod during gameplay. The game features a few game modes including career, online and Bluetooth multiplayer and quick race.

For the most part Asphalt 5 is as close to burnout as you can get on the iPhone but it does have some inclusions that improve on the Burnout gameplay; like the inclusion of real cars and models. You will also be able to get girlfriends that will provide you with various perks; such as increased prize money from wins. Besides that however, the game offers players some thoroughly enjoyable gameplay at a moderate price.
