The top 3 best top down shooters for iPhone and iPad

By , on January 10, 2019

Welcome to the third part of our round up of the best of the different styles of shooter that you can grab from the App Store. We've already covered the top 3 arcade shooters as well as the top 3 platform shooters. Today, we're going to look at what we think are the three best top-down shooters that you can pick up from the App Store at this very second.

Since it's such a short list, there's a good chance we've missed out one of your favourites. We've not done it on purpose, and we'd love to hear your suggestions - and the reasons you think they should be included - in the comments section down there at the bottom of the list. For now though, let's get on with the games we've chosen.

A brilliant mix of retro and modern ideas, with more than a dollop of difficulty flopped on top. There's a challenge here, for sure, but the game gives you everything you need to make it through - as long as you've got the reflexes and finger strength to make it through. There's a decent story and some lovely cyberpunk styling here as well, and you're going to have plenty of fun blasting through it.

This one sits at the gentler end of the top-down genre. You've only got one stick and some buttons to play around with, but the rhythm of the game still makes sure you're going to be entertained. The levels are shorter and the challenge is lower, but this one fits brilliantly into mobile-sized gaming sessions. It's bright, it's got loads of neat ideas, and it's not going to drive you insane with super tough bosses.

If you're looking for a game that literally drips with gore, then this is the one you should be getting. It mixes in ideas from a whole bunch of other genres, but at its core it's a viciously difficult shooter - the ideas it eases in from other pieces of the gaming world just make that shooting more difficult and more vicious. This definitely isn't one to let your kids play though - pretty much every image it assaults you with is designed to make you feel a bit queasy.
