HandyGames and Purple Lamp Studios is launching SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated on iOS and Android devices later this month on 21st January.

It’s a 3D platformer based on Nickelodeon’s popular SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon TV series that has aired for the past two decades, as well as being a remake of the original Battle for Bikini Bottom which originally came out on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and GameCube in 2003.

You play as the yellow man himself, SpongeBob, as well as his mates Patrick and Sandy as they go on an adventure across Bikini Bottom to foil Plankton’s plans to take over the town using an army of robots. The game is set in various iconic locations from the show, including the Krusty Krab, Jellyfish Fields and Rock Bottom where you destroy robots, solve puzzles and earn rewards.

Every level in SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated has Golden Spatulas which you must collect to progress, with you being able to earn them from solving puzzles or completing challenging platformer sequences. Each area requires a specific amount of spatulas, so it’s best to try and find as many as possible.

As an optional side objective, you also find socks for Patrick who will reward you with more spatulas for finding them in tens. They’re a bit more hidden than the spatulas so it’s best to really search far and wide for these items.

Additionally, you will meet other popular characters from the cartoon such as Mr Krabs, Squidward, and Bubble Buddy who each have their own sets of challenges and puzzles to resolve for rewards.

If it sounds like you’re due a childhood throwback, you can download SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated from the iOS App Store or Google Play for Android on 21st January. It’s a paid title which will cost you $8.99.
