Shiro Games has officially released the multiplayer update for the mobile edition of Northgard on both iOS and Android smartphones, which is great news for RTS and Northgard fans alike. It is now designed to allow crossplay as well. Read on to discover more about this hotly anticipated upgrade!
The time for the harsh lands of #Northgard to be only yours is over! Today marks the introduction of the multiplayer!— Playdigious (@Playdigious) September 29, 2021
Fight your friends on #iOS and #Android and show them the superiority of your clan!
According to Shiro Games, players can now play against opponents from both Android and iOS devices "with no restrictions". Considering how the game is still in its early stages, this is an incredible achievement. Likewise, Shiro Games has described the multiplayer features in detail, which include:
• Users can challenge any other player to a 1v1 duel.
• Teamplay follows the same principles as a duel but allows players to create alliances and compete against one another in 2v2, 3v3, or 2v2v2 modes.
• Free-for-all pits up to 6 players against each other in an attempt to be the first to win by fulfilling any of the victory requirements. To reach the finish line, one must battle to the death, gain influence through clever deals, or seek blessings from God.
What is Northgard?
Northgard is a real-time tactical game first launched for PC in 2017 and later for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Linux and Macintosh versions of the game are also available. It was a best seller on PC, distributing well over 2 million copies, a figure that was deemed far beyond expectations given Shiro Games' relative reputation at the time.
Vikings and Norse mythology are liberally spread through the game. The gameplay is strikingly close to that of the hugely successful Age of Empires series. The iOS version was released in April of this year on App Store, while the Android version was recently released last month on the Google Play Store.
