Runescape celebrates its first-year anniversary on mobile this week, twenty years after being every high school gamer's go-to as soon as they booted up their PC. Jagexs’ MMORPG has been one of the longest-running games and still remains popular two decades after its release, a testament to the accessibility and fun the game offers.

To celebrate a year on mobile, Jagex is giving away a trove of free items to free players and those who pay for membership. Everybody will be gifted five Treasure Hunter keys, used to unlock chests that reward players a random prize across a spectrum of rarities. Players will also receive a small knowledge bomb, which boosts XP by 50% for a limited time, perfect for anyone wanting to join in and see what the hype is about. Finally, a Bullsmith outfit is available to claim, for anyone who wants to give their blacksmithing a bovine flavour, or simply bathe in the delightfully brutal irony of a bull-based Leatherworker.

For anyone thinking of trying the game, now is an excellent time. As well as the rewards, RuneScape offers cross-platform play and progression, so any progress made on mobile or PC will carry over to the other, and with 40% of players doing so on mobile each month, it is a safe bet the game is very well optimised. In addition, Jagex has recently released a new quest entitled Twilight of the Gods. It serves as a bridge between the conclusion of the epic saga Elder Gods Wars, and the biggest boss battle in RuneScape history against the God of Chaos himself, Zamorak.

As well as being available on browsers and PCs, RuneScape can be downloaded on the App Store and Google Play for free, or for those seeking a nostalgia shot Old School RuneScape is also available to download from the App Store and Google Play, again for free.
