Hot on the heels of Square Enix announcing the upcoming remake of Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Final Fantasy VII The First First Soldier is getting in on the action with its own Crisis Core flavoured events. To celebrate 25 years - feel old yet? - since the release of Final Fantasy VII, Ateam is celebrating the origins of a legend with characters from Crisis Core in all their polygonal glory.

The Buster Sword has also been scattered around the battlefield, and by grabbing one the player will transform into the original wielder, Zack, for a limited time. On top of this, the DMW system from Crisis Core, for those who didn't play the original think a slot type affair, has been implemented, with such effects as dealing damage to monsters and enemy candidates, HP restoration, increased critical hit rates and more. It is worth noting, that these features are for unranked matches only, for the sake of a fair playing field in ranked.

If running around as a custom soldier with modern graphics on a detailed battlefield is starting to get a bit boring then look no further than this event. Harking back to the cutting-edge graphics of yesteryear, Final Fantasy Crisis Core characters such as Zack, Angeal and Genesis are being released as skins in their retro, blocky finest, available by spending Premium Shinra Pack tickets. By killing special polygonal monsters and gathering their data, players can also buy a poly Aerith skin, poly Chocobos, and more.

To celebrate the juggernaut that is Final Fantasy 7’s 25th birthday, on the whole, Ateam is also bringing back the poly skins from their previous FFVII collabs. By purchasing premium packs, players will get a shot at winning skins of Barret, Tifa, Cloud, Yuffie, Vincent and more. The graphics of the game will take a big hit but the nostalgia will be through the roof with this event. Final Fantasy 7 The First Soldier is available to download now on the App Store and Google Play.
