NetEase Games has released details for the latest expansion of its open-world Doomsday Survival game LifeAfter. The update, The Sea of Zombie, does pretty much what it says on the tin, and smashes together two staples of the survival genre to bring treacherous new features to threaten players.

With the infections of the doomsday world worsening by the day, the Survivors have decided to take to the sea in order to find an escape, however, the waters are a harsh mistress. Utilizing a fully updated physics engine, LifeAfter will be able to render ultrarealistic water surface effects to heighten the tension of trying to survive the seas.

Chasing rumours of a safe haven known as the Pureland, the Survivors will face the five deadly seas of LifeAfter, each with its own idiosyncratic nature. The Crystalthorn Sea is covered with infected crystals, both undeniably beautiful and dangerous. Players who choose the Labyrinth Sea will be combatting a fog that renders compasses useless, requiring a lot of luck and preparation. Attracted by the fluorescent seaweed famed for its curative effect on crystal infection, the Rainbow Sea is packed to the gills with Infected. The Eroded Reef Sea has mature crystals that explode and cause hallucinations all around. Finally, the Whirlpool Sea has plenty of its namesake scattered around, each one either leading to certain death or an enticing unknown encounter.

To celebrate the pre-registration, available now on the official website, NetEase is offering a bounty of items when milestones are reached such as Formula Shards and Skill Points. When the 150,000 mark is reached, two lucky Survivors will win a Red Magic 6s Pro, whilst one Survivor will walk away with a 256G iPad mini to enjoy the game on.

On August 6th, the Myth of the Mermaid questline will launch, tasking players with investigating the aforementioned rumours that have spread among sailors. By completing these quests between August 6th and August 11th, a special pointer will be awarded that will grant bonus items when the expansion launches on August 12th.
