Rocket League Sideswipe is turning one this month and is celebrating its birthday with a brand new season packed with features. Season 6 brings Anniversary gifts, a brand-new mode, and a sorely missed feature from the original Rocket League.
To commemorate Sideswipe's first birthday, players will be able to get their hands on some sweet Cupcake Wheels, a huge Birthday Hat Topper and the Party Horn Boost, because why not deafen everyone? For the last gift, players will need to put in a bit of effort. By winning 20 Online Matches and connecting your original Rocket League Account to your Sideswipe account, the Octopus Banner will be unlocked in both games.
It can be a little tricky aiming in Sideswipe when first starting out, as the big ball is surprisingly stubborn, so Season 6 is bringing a new mode to ranked called Heatseeker. In this new match, simply touching the ball will cause it to home in on the opponent's goal at high speed. It is an interesting mode, bordering on cheap as it will dumb down offence, but putting more of a focus on defence could make for some interesting games.
Another big addition to Season 6 is the introduction to one of Rocket League's best features, Collisions. Finally, Sideswipe players will be able to batter players out of the way as they charge toward goals. There won’t be any demolitions so players won’t be taken out of the match, which is definitely a good thing. With the small arena and 2D gaming, it’s impossible to not be passing through opponents all the time, so it would be too constant compared to the original Rocket League's huge arena where you need to try and hit people.
Rocket League Sideswipe is available to download free from the App Store and Google Play with Season 6 launching today and those looking for the complete notes on Season 6 can find them in the official blog post.
