It's hard to think that something like Minigore could be made more addictive, but combining dual-stick shooter gameplay with challenge based quests is certainly a good start. Pirate's Treasure by Chillingo follows the fate of a thick-skulled ruffian as he attempts to reclaim treasure that was stolen from him and regain his fierce fighting skills.

At first the game gives you a taster of what it's like to be at full power, pitting you against Death himself and a horde of undead creatures. The controls at this level are incredibly smooth and being busted back down to sluggish movement with slow firing weapons can feel seriously underwhelming. However you'll quickly regain your powers as you pummel your way through an onslaught of challenges to unlock new challenges and the occasional brutal event like killing 1000 enemies to test your stamina.

The 3D designs are simplistic and many of the models are reused with new skins and sizes to flesh out the variety. There are around 50 or so levels to complete in the main campaign to keep you amused with its simple storyline, but endless challenges and bonus levels can be unlocked and add a lot of replayability.

A bit more variety in the gameplay or bonuses would have gone a long way to make Pirate's Treasure a true classic, but the somewhat basic dual-stick shooter gameplay does start to get repetitive once you've maxed out your character. A hearty challenge for all action fans to enjoy.

Pirate's Treasure

Pirate's Treasure goes that one extra step with dual-stick shooters by adding challenge based gameplay, but once you're pimped out things can get repetitive.
