  • Easy to control.
  • Millions (and soon hopefully billions) of puzzles to keep you busy.

CONS

  • Players will need to retrain some of their Sudoku logic for 3D.

VERDICT

Sudoku in 3D isn't just a gimmick, it's positively fun with 3-Duko's color region gameplay replacing the game's traditional rows and columns.

It was only a matter of time, but Sudoku has finally hit the third-dimension. 3-Duko by Gold Brothers Entertainment doesn't attempt to reinvent the wheel by creating yet another plain Sudoku game for the App Store, but rather they've created an amazingly addictive variant that places the game's nine grids on to a cube that you can spin and solve.

In a traditional game of Sudoku, players must fill a grid using logic to ensure that the numbers one through nine aren't repeated in each square, row or column. In its cubed form the basic gameplay would fall apart as twelve numbers can fit around each row or column of a cube, but 3-Duko solves this problem by substituting rows and columns with color regions. The cube can be rotated with one finger or realigned with two fingers and alternate views are available to switch between 3D, 2D or color region only modes.

The game's interface is light-hearted with cartoonish text and clean stenciled outlines that are easy on the eye. It's easy to accidentally press several of the number buttons at the same time if you're a bit ham-fisted, but it's hardly a major complaint as errors can be quickly corrected.

Grids are generated each time a new game is created, giving you literally millions of games to enjoy and with a new harder difficulty level in production this will push the variety up to several billion puzzles. 3-Duko may not be traditional Sudoku, but it's a fun alternative that puzzle fans should definitely check out.
