For some, like myself, jumping head-long in to strategy title complete with its deep rule-set and mechanics is just the thing you need to provide a fulfilling distraction. But every now and again all you want is something simple, something polished, something like Save Sylva by clovare.

There are only 6 towers in total to manage in Save Sylva, with most of the game being easy enough to complete with the first 4, however the real trick is in upgrading them. Instead of a basic 'level up' you get to choose specific attributes to modify ranging from power, range and speed, while additional 'experience' points can be spent on giving towers unique power upgrades. Another neat touch is the addition of tilt-moveable 'zones' that can provide bonuses to your towers or decrease the attributes of enemies inside them. If tilting becomes too much of a hassle the zones can be locked in to place, giving you a chance to manage your towers without fuss.

Save Sylva won't win any awards for its visual design, but it continues its elegantly simple theme to the graphics with basic creature designs and mazes designed with palette swap trees.

What makes Save Sylva so much fun is how all of these elements boil down to a game that's less about frantic management and last-second hail-mary's than it is about ensuring your towers are working in harmony to take down the incoming waves. For anyone after an excellent new tower defense title without complications, Save Sylva is the one for you.
