What's more adorable than afro-bedecked aliens that need a hand to get back home? Possibly a lot of things, but AFROian Jewels by Toropot certainly makes a good case for their poor, lost aliens in their three-match Columns-inspired arcade puzzler for the App Store.

It's hard not to notice that the developers strongly recommend that players get used to using a two-thumb setup for their game and when you take it for a spin for the first time you'll quickly understand why. AFROian Jewels doesn't fool around and quickly ramps up the speed and difficulty, making single-finger play difficult to pull off. Tapping a column will align the incoming AFROian's and button controls are available to change their ordering or drop them down immediately.

The game's layout is extremely simple and uses 3D graphics that adds character to the afro-aliens and the various special events and creatures that pop up to make your game more challenging. The extra creatures can be turned off, however this does turn the game in to a vanilla clone of Columns.

Those that master the early levels will be given access to new difficulty settings to keep AFROian Jewels challenging at all times. A quirky, if fairly standard three-match game for casual and hardcore gamers to enjoy.

If you need a new level of challenge for your three-match gaming, AFROian Jewels doesn't fool around and while that may put off a lot of casual gamers it's charming enough that you might just keep persisting.
