Empire of the Sun Game is a puzzle game where you play as the members of the real life Australian Electropop band, Empire of the Sun as you travel on a surreal and magical journey.
The controls consist of different actions such as touch, shake, blow, tilt, drag and rub. It’s up to the player to use these actions to solve puzzles throughout the different levels. But players aren’t given a tutorial, only shown the words and leave you to figure the levels out yourselves. This is fine for a puzzle game, but it’s like someone giving you the keys to a plane and saying, throttle, breaks, steer; It’s just not that practical.
The visuals are surprisingly well done and look pretty good. The sound is limited to the main menu and small video sequences only. Meaning that the levels themselves are silent, which is bizarre for a game based on a band. And there is no option to use your iPod during gameplay either so players are stuck with silence. The game is single player only, with no highscores, let alone a leaderboard option, and no other modes besides the main mode.
Empire of the Sun Game is a game that is just not worth buying. The unclear controls, silent gameplay and short story make it a real chore to play. While there’s some nice content here for fans, it’s nothing exclusive and you don’t need to buy the game to see it. To put it simply, try a different game if you want a fun and exciting puzzle adventure experience.
This game is really not worth the current price, even if you’re a huge fan of the band, there isn’t enough content or decent gameplay to keep you happy.
