Finding that next great addictive Arcade title isn't always an easy task, but searching for games that boil down other games to their core mechanics is good place to start. The Blocks Cometh by EdisonGame places you in control of a miniature ninja as he attempts to climb ever higher thanks to blocks dropping down the screen ala The Incident.

You have a few options for continuing to survive, either by dodging via tilt; jumping or wall-jumping; and lastly you can flip out (as is the traditional maneuver for any ninja) to slice the blocks in your way. Should you fall down a gap or be crushed, it's game over, but patiently waiting out the next series of blocks isn't too hard and most deaths come simply from anticipating the next drop location incorrectly.

Unfortunately that's really all there is to do and while there's some satisfaction in beating your previous score, there's no real skill beyond patience, luck and occasionally clearing a block or two to make a jump easier. Some aerial maneuvers like wall-jumping off a falling block can make you feel like some sort of pimp super-ninja, but there are no rewards outside of your ability to survive.

The Blocks Cometh is an interesting, if wasted, opportunity to create an exciting and addictive title. The 8-bit graphical style is fun and well paired with the chip-tune audio, but when minute 1 is the same as minute 2 (only faster), it's hard to stay focused and interested for long.

The use of the word 'clone' is continually watered down by comparing 'similar' titles; if you need a definition of a 'clone', this is it. It's hard enough for Independent developers to get a foot in the door and until this issue is resolved we can't in good concience recommend this title.
